Hi, I've a friend who has a year 2000 M5 which has recently started displaying the Low Oil Pressure light. I'm not sure of the mileage but I think it is around 100k.

The car was running perfectly up until this occurred and was not rattling or sounding any different to normal.

I realise this is difficult to diagnose simply from the facts I've given, I just would like to know if anyone has had a similar episode and how to check the oil pressure on this model.

Many thanks, Paul

With any red oil light my strong advice would be not to turn the key again until you know what is going on.  An M engine with a lubrication issue will lunch a lot of very expensive parts very quickly.  The quicker you can get expert to look, then the more likely you are to avoid a big bill.

If the car is running OK with the warning light displayed then I guess (but take with a pinch of salt as I don't know this model well) it could just be the sensor, which I expect is easy to replace.

Cheers, I have told the owner not to start the car again until the oil pressure is tested but he knows best apparently.... LOL

Silly question but has the oil level been checked?
