Silverstone sounds good --
500 Zeds doing a parade lap or two would be monumental.

Fitting in another show or event would make it more worthwhile for the likes of me travel
(I enjoyed the E30 M3 M photo-shoot/National Show weekend) Hopefully you won't have it too far south either

Will there be facilities for camping and caravans? At so many BMWCC events it seems to be assumed that everyone can either commute from home, or afford to stay in hotels.
At the odd event where camping has entered the minds of the organisers, they assume that we have no real standards, and direct us to awful places such as the back of the pub at Gaydon (no loos etc) or a terrible site across the M40 with very basic facilities. Silverstone is a large place, with ample spaces, showers, and loos which could be used by campers - how about it? Edited by Mike Fishwick - 31 Aug 2011 at 11:12am |

Thanks for positive comments--- Please Keep them coming!!!!!!!---
We know how important it is get everything right-Right!!.We want to see those ZZzzzzzzss on that special lap and displayed to the best visual way.Being there this year as we have for the past 4 years, things Have begun to fit together with the organisation we have to work with, but its a two way partnership.Lots of details to be sorted and agreed----and we have ideas for promoting the clubs Future 60 years!!. We will need ALL your help at this special event---
We saw the problems with this years 50th Birthday parade lap for the Jaguar drivers club--and all the burst water hoses due to lack of parade instructions/Marshals for all the 800 E- types--I became a traffic marshal for an hour or two-- as it was a gridlock area in front of our site, so that needs careful planning and management, as does ALL our programme.
Silverstone have spent £000ssssss on the New campsite opened this year in time for the GP--with very good facilities, and we had 5-6 members camping there this July, I think positive comments from them, will get them to confirm.
A Zillion things to do before OUR 60th celebrations, and time IS running out--depending on the dates to be advised + - 324 days!!!! and counting---

I'd like to see some professional photography/video at the event. If a parade lap is involved then it would be great to get that captured from the edge of the circuit (rather than the inevitable home brew in-car stuff). I would expect that there would be demand from z owners for footage and/or pics for such a significant event.
I notice that there's a z3 roadster racing series this year details here. If the series runs again next year then wouldn't it be great if they could hold a race during the zed meet. Maybe it's a long shot but got to be worth considering. |

Mike Confirming Johns comment - Silverstone can now provide camping for 15,000 tents combined with all services. These are in the circuit. The golf club adjoining the circuit also has all the facilities for caravan parking. More details will be released as arrangements are decided and confirmed |

The camping sounds good - about time a UKcircuit thought of this.
The Z3 race series looks interesting. Pity BMW never thought of spopnsoring such a production-based race sereis when the Z3 was introduced, which would have avoided the usual cheap jibes from motoring hacks. |

Mike---Agree about the lack of camping facilities--BUT!!! for a Very limited amount of Use during a seasons meets---how many circuits can afford the £0000s for maybe a weekend or 5 during the 52 weeks??? Silverstone has invested for -lets say 30 weeks PA- if its only used for the GPrix + + its a BIG investment--Chicken "n " Egg--BUT at last they Have provided the BiZZzzs.
AS a NON camper I say-Good on yer Stone

Following the confirmation of the 2012 F1 calendar 10 days ago, the Classic website has now changed the "to be confirmed dates" from 27th to 29th July-- TO -- 20th to 22nd July. This new date ensures the Classic is finished before the Olympics start on the 25th. http://silverstoneclassic.com/event-guide/classic-car-clubs-2/ Hope this helps |

John - we don't need a pukka campsite - look at the early Oktoberfests, where campers and caravanners were adequately catered for, using the normal loo and shower facilities - it was great.
In contrast, when we first went to Gaydon, I asked the Office about camping, and was told that there was a site at the Gaydon Pub- which turned out to be just a field, with a goat which wanted to either eat or mount my tent, depending on its mood! There were no loos or showers. What really rubbed it in was thast at Gaydon I found the Sealed Knot had been permited to camp inside - someone had obvioulsy taken the trouble to ask. An example of the 'Who cares about campers' syndrome at work. The Gaydon pub was great - nice people and great food, but their field could not be considered as a campsite. Anyway - all that should now be behind us, and with a real campsite at Gaydon a lot more people should find it possible to attend - maybe not in great numbers to start with, but as the world gets around it may take off. Well done to whoever took the trouble to ask! Edited by Mike Fishwick - 20 Sep 2011 at 4:00pm |

Did someone say something? We are planning a Z fest...what better way to celebrate a teenage birthday? @ Ian - are you saying my photos are not good enough? Also, not likely yo see a Z3 race there since it's a "Classsic" event, and whilst the visitors might not be that old the racing cars are!

And yet - it does not look 'old' - I don't think I am a being too biased, for if one looks at cars such as the Hyundi Coupe or even the early MX-5, the Z3 looks fresh. Perhaps it is due to BMW having limited their usual tinkering with a good design to playing around with the rear wings.
The interesting thing will come when the Z3 has been out of production for ten years (next year!) and in theory will have become a 'Classic.' Will the media hacks then rediscover it, and tell their public what a wonderfully under-rated car it is, and advise them to buy one as a usable classic? Not at all, your pictures are excellent, but I'm concious that you can only be in one place at a time. I anticipate that there would be a market for photos of zeds parading around the track (and I suspect that you would be one of the parade participants too). |

I’m more than happy to supply images of the Z Celebration at the Silverstone Classic in 2012, I had accreditation this year and I hope to have it again next year. Can you give me more details of what you would like? Cheers Dave Airston Airston Photographic |
