Hello Ladies and Gents, although not new to the BMWCC this is my first post on the Alpina forum. My sister has decided that she wants to replace her very old Golf Gti with an Alpina D3 Touring. I suggested she drive my E61 530D Touring. Although she liked it she wants a manual with good fuel economy and good handling/fun.
Her budget will definitely not run to a bi-turbo.

I've seen an ad on autotrader for a blue car listed at £12195.

Any thoughts on this car are appreciated, as are anyone's experiences with running costs and maintenance required.

Thanks in advance

Andy Mc

They're no big deal, just a 320d with bigger injectors and an ECU remap amongst other things. They have the old M47TU diesel engine that is a decent old thing, unlike the later version with the N47 engine of doom. Plenty of oil and filter changes are key to long life for the turbo and it's worth removing the upper inlet manifold and replacing every vacuum pipe in sight for the same of a couple of hours work and a tenner's worth of vac pipe - always use the braided stuff. It's also worth whipping the swirl flaps from the manifold although they weren't as much aggro as the old E46 was.

They are a nice car!
