Only officially possible on the latest models. Not an option for yours, nor mine.
If it is possible you will need to fit the complete dash with the central pod, then the NBT installation to the dashboard, COMBOX in the boot, iDrive Controller, interface box, roof antenna, all the wiring looms to install etc. Then once the hardware is in you will need to have it all coded up and pay for the apps to be installed. Probably looking at £3000 upwards if at all possible. If it is just the iPod/iPhone integration you are looking for with Bluetooth then a Dension Gateway 500 or 300 depending on whether your care has a MOST optical network fitted or not. If your car has the MOST network then you will still need to have the Gateway 500 coded. Probably around £400 for this all in if you shop around or DIY. Alternatively you can get cheaper kits from the far east that have an integrated Sat Nav screen for the dash centre and you re-position the air con controls replacing your original FF Radio, give you an all on one solution with Sat Nav, Mp3, iPod, Bluetooth. I think they are all around £300 plus fitting but don't offer Apple Play, they are usually Android based.

There are also non OEM alternative head units giving apple play ability. I saw a post in the UK section of e90post.com where someone had done this successfully.

Yes, just checked it out.
It is a Pioneer SPH-DA120 Apple CarPlay Unit, a double DIN fitting. Then buy the facia adaptor that moves the climate panel lower in the central dash and the adaptor leads for the CANBUS steering wheel buttons and the parking sensors. Post is here: |
