Winter wheels shod with winter tyres went on at the weekend. Timed extremely well as it happened ;)
Replaced rear springs beginning of October so seeing as the wheels were off took the opportunity to give the underside a good wax oiling. Keep her regularly cleaned and waxed so ready for the winter. ;)

Car in at Prestige German Cars on Tyneside for some pesky items to be fixed, like windows and alarm system, central locking, sill fitment etc, having calipers removed and sent away to Bigg Red to be electro-plated, and sending steering wheel to Royal Steering Wheels for recovering

So far so good Nick, although its still there, picking up the calipers from them on monday so I can send them away, hopefully they will be returned within 2 weeks, ordering new alloys from BMW and have those fitted next year, along with new colour coded Reiger splitter, and while thats being done am going to get them to sort out the undertray which needs new bolts, and whatever new parts are needed. JON MORGAN seems a very decent lad to deal with and his knowledge of BMW's is unrivalled, will let you know the results when I get the car back.

I have a 96 328 sport. My winter work has already started.
Remove front arch liners clean out all nooks and crannies and lag with wax oil. Replace all 4 Calipers , fit my new Mtec drilled and grooved Discs with Mintex friction, replace handbrake shoes. Next job is fit 2 new lower arms. Powerflex both anti roll bars, rear bushes, and rear and front stabiliser link bushes again with Powerflex. Last and most expensive is to have drivers seat bolster replaced then both front seats to be dyed . Centre console arm to be recovered to match my Red interior. Get the minor dent man to remove a little ding on the o/s arch. Then drive it to death next summer!!! Can't wait. |

My work started 2 years ago, while parked up (on the street) a driver reversed into my E30 M3SE splitting my front bumper, fortunately I was sitting in the car otherwise I think she would have driven off!
The claim went through and the car was booked in, but decided that as it was going into the paint shop I would get them to freshen up the engine bay and headlamp panel and pay for this myself. For various reasons I've just never had a clear run at removing the engine etc until now. The bumper, grilles, headlamp assemblies, engine and gearbox are now out (taken out from below the car) so now have to put the subframe and suspension back on, roll up the wiring harness and complete the stripping of ABS pump, fuel and brake lines in readiness for the paint shop on 11th January. The engine is a bit oil leaky here and there, so have now decided to completely clean up the engine by fitting new gaskets, remove all the yellow passivate fixings to go away for replating, the cam cover, plenum chamber to go away for repainting crackle black, the throttle bodies to be stripped down to fit new o rings and replate the mechanisms. Once the car is back I need to refresh and make good the wiring connections all along the front where wiring has become brittle, then apply new loom tape, get the headlamp wash/wipe working - and hopefully BMW will be supplying new seat Fabric to enable the seats to finally be reupholstered. Then just the slightly bent rear wheel to be straightened or replaced. It could be a while until this set of wheels meets the road again!

My X5 has 'running boards' which have been driving me nuts since I got the car - I think I might take them off over the winter.
However a quick squint underneath suggests I might be in 'thinking' mode for some time

Well - busy wee bees then - especially Richard, are you sure you've not missed anything .
There's not much left to do on mine, got mine all done in the summer - Mmm, well a 3 - 4 week, full respray and a bit (which turned out to be quite a lot) welding turned out to be a 20 week job !! 20 weeks to the day I put it in on 24th of March (to be ready for "show-time") missing almost all the shows, anyhow, due to an nasty injury, I couldn't have done most of the shows anyway . So all I'd maybe like to do now is get the engine bay tidied up nicely to match the rest of the car. Got an auto lecky coming to see me just after Christmas as the central locking is a bit dodgy / moody, sometimes I have to turn the key/ unlock twice for it to unlock ? I've had a look at this myself a few weeks ago, I have a feeling it may be something to do with the electric mirror switch !! cos, when that's unhooked the central locking works absolutely fine (took me for EV-VER to sus this out) so hopefully he'll get this sorted for me + I need a new electric aerial. and that's all folks so not too much for me to do - other than sit in my garage and look at it
