Hello all,

I'm Mani, captain of the 6 series register.

I can see that the 6 series forum does not have much going on, hopefully we can try to change that with some regular events for the 6 series register (and open to all members of the club of course).

As mentioned in the latest edition of the magazine, I have arranged a trip with BMW for a tour of their excellent distribution centre, BMW Thorne.  The centre is based in Doncaster, post code DN8 4HT.

I went a couple of years ago and it really is a magnificent site!
Thorne is where all the new BMW cars from Germany go for pre-delivery inspection before being moved on to the dealerships and also where ex management cars go for repairs, etc.

The date is Friday 8th September 2017.  The tour will start at 09.30 so we will all need to meet in the car park for 09.15. It should last about an hour - 90 minutes.

Strictly no photography is allowed so please leave your cameras at home.

It would be great to get as many 6 series members to come along, however of course this is open to all regions and registers Smile

The number of people we are allowed is 15 so if you would like to come along, please register your interest below.

Thanks, Mani

----
Current list as of 30th July 2017:

1. Bowler (Paul)
2&3. Steve H and Tim
4. RParkinson (M1 most welcome!! Smile)
5. Neil (Major X Man)

Did the tour a couple of years ago, an excellant opportunity, Only live 5 miles from the site so would love to visit again but not at the expense of another member so if you have a place available nearer the time please put me down. Only half 6 ( 1998 Z3)

Hi Mni.
Your were our 'official' photographer on that visit too if I recall correctly

anyway IF, only IF, you are short on numbers from the 6 series register, then like Paul above, Tim & myself would like to visit again.
Keep me posted

Thanks

Hi all,

Some good news and bad news.

Firstly, the bad news.  The Thorne trip will be postponed until January 2018.  Good news though is that BMW is currently building a new facility dedicated to brand new BMWs and have suggested that we visit that one instead (will still be located near to Thorne).  The facility will be open to visit in January 2018 so one I have a confirmed date, I will let you all know.

Thanks, Mani

Definitely won't bring the M1 in January, so it will have to be the M6. I'd have thought January would rule out most E26's too.

Hi all.
Only told about this trip being cancelled earlier today.
Mani, Can I suggest anyone who expressed interest should be emailed / text direct to stop any wasted journeys :-)

with all due respect Howard when people sign up to an event which is subsequently cancelled WHY would they be looking on clubs events list??
Once booked on no one would keep checking to see if was cancelled.
sorry but it is for the organiser to inform those booked
No offence Mani - just setting record straight for Howard :-)

With due respect Steve how is a event organisers going to let people know that an event has changed due to what ever reason.
The only way is on the forum, I as a regional chair don't have personal details of members in my region i.e. phone numbers or email address.
They could send out PMs via this forum but if members don't check this forum they will not see they have a PM.
They could get the office to send a email out but as some event I arrange members come from other regions, so in that case dose one ask the email to be sent to over 4000 member,!!!

Sorry to go on but this is one of my pet hates, you put event details in Staight Six, on the website and forum and one still gets phone calls what time do we meet or be there.

accept your point in general Michael BUT.
In this case it was a list of those who expressed interest / booked so the organiser DID know the contact details of those who had booked.

Not a biggie but sure as eggs are eggs someone could / may still, arrive at Thorne - watch this space :-)

'
Thank goodness for 'Facebook Groups' 'Whatsapp' and 'Messenger' - before I started using them I got countless phone calls asking if the "trackday was still on tomorrow", or "where do we meet" etc.
Nowadays the calls are very few.
Its very easy to put everyone in such a group, they can opt in and out themselves if they like and if you want to notify people just one message has everyone's phone buzzing.

Anyway back on topic, we would love a Thorne visit it seems like ages since our last one.
If you have room for a couple of Trackday Register cars please count us in, we are only 20 minutes away

How right you are Michael!
Ever heard the one about taking your horse to water and making it drink?
People are people and will forget anything.(me most of all!). Its often easier for them to ring someone and ask rather than to look themselves.

Best advice I can give is that when they ring, and the event details are on the club events list, just tell them first, and also tell them to look there in future. After a bit they will do it as a matter of course.
Every event on the list also shows on the regional page at the bottom, so all you have to do is to look there.
Have fun. Its only a car club.
Thanks for the good work that you are doing in the North East - a very successful region.

Hello all,

Just to clarify, I have been following the topic but took the guidance of the club to just have the Events page updated...

Anyway, moving on I now have a confirmed date for the BMW Killingholme trip.  The date has slipped to February 2018 and so the new date is Friday 16th February 2018.  The tour will start at 10:30 and should last between 1.5 hours - 2 hours.  You will need to be at the car park for 10:15.

As per the Thorne trip, photography is strictly prohibited at Killingholme.

So if you are interested in coming along, please indicate your interest below.  If you put your name down for the Thorne trip above and are interested in this new trip, please can you put your name down below.

A little bit of reading for those who may be unfamiliar with the new Killingholme  facility:

Hi Mani,
Thanks for arranging this trip. I will post it on the club events list and make it official, also in the January magazine - just missed the deadline I think. If you send me any additional detail it will be publicised.

There is a possibility I won't be able to make this as I was asked if my M1 would be available for the London Classic Car Show which is 15th-18th Feb 2018.  I'm not sure if I'll go yet, so keep me on the list and I'll update it when I make a decision.

All interesting comments, the simple way to avoid potential data protection issues and therefore to allow the Club office to give details to regional chairman or events organiser is simple, it is this:-

We tell all members that unless they specifically write to the Club expressing a desire that their details are not shared they then may be. However, this is quantified by saying it is in connection with Club related activities that they may be interested in or have applied to participate.

Furthermore, the Club can promise it will not share the information with third party companies, institutions or Clubs and will not use the information for internal marketing purposes other than events.
