Hi all,
Recently purchased this GT2 She is in pretty good shape and only plan to do a few cosmetic bits to it. First things first, removed the caps on the headlights so they can dry out Thanks Mark |

Hi all, no the car has had no history issue. It is currently not on the registra for the GT cars through the choice of the previous owner. Nothing untoward about the car just not sure I want to make the details public that is all.
I did have a M3 Saloon many years ago and went to a Exeter meet. Most prob met some of you at this. I did also own a M3 Evo Convertible Estoril blue/Black leather. Sold my Escort Cosworth and bought this car (eventually) A couple more snaps of it tucked away for the winter Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Thanks Mark |

The cossie was a great car, VERY fast but with bigish power comes problems and I got fed-up with it. The closest person who knew what they was doing with the engine was around 100 miles away so a massive issue if it needed something cosworth related. For some years now I have always said the E36 M3/Evo/GT would rise in value so decided to put my money where my mouth was and purchased this. I have always liked the M3's and previously owned a Convertible Evo and 3.0 M3 saloon so the next step was a Coupe. Not too many about at the moment and I only really like black leather. This was offered to me by a friend so took the opportunity to own a Imola. I have sat down with the service history tonight and found the car had a brand new Vanos fitted in 2007 and a clutch at 97,000. I have sorted the history into order. Only thing I do not have is the leather booklet the service book and manuals go in... Anyone got one they do not want? Untitled by mboon, on Flickr |

UPDATE:
Today I started on the paintwork. Years of bad weather and poor cleaning had taken its toll so decided to using Megs cutting compound to try take out some of the swirl and grim on the paintwork. This is a 75/25 shot of the roof during. The right hand side has not been touched. M3 Evolution Imola Individual GT2 by mboon, on Flickr I did noticed halfway through cleaning the car I was putting too much on and found it hard to take off again, this shows in these photos M3 Evolution Imola Individual GT2 by mboon, on Flickr I ended up using a fresh clean cloth to remove the extra, not perfect but should be fine once the polish and wax has been applied This is a before and after of the rear spoiler. Like I said, nowhere near perfect but certainly an improvement. BMW paint is bloody hard! After yesterday my right hand was practically useless!
I had to go back to the car to move it over in the garage and decided to make a small start on the engine bay. This is what it started off like Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Untitled by mboon, on Flickr After Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Untitled by mboon, on Flickr While I was cleaning this part, I noticed the bolts with the washers on was not very tight? I gave them a tweak up Untitled by mboon, on Flickr I am guessing this is just a cover of some sorts? I also managed to break this :( Untitled by mboon, on Flickr I am guessing this is the pump for the washer jets? anyone got a working one they do not need? Mine has broken when trying to remove the water pipe Untitled by mboon, on Flickr I took the coil cover off to try clean it up and found 6 BMW coils which was nice Untitled by mboon, on Flickr This one also shows the top of the engine and the mess it is in. This is the coil cover after a bit of a clean and put back on, also scrubbed the black crackle paint near this cover to see if it would come off, came off the engine part but not the removable coil cover, will need to get this sprayed Untitled by mboon, on Flickr That is all I managed today, need to let my hands recover now. Did not manage to clean the arches out but I can do that in the garage. Thanks for reading Mark |

OK so started on the other side of the engine bay today
Removed some parts and started with this Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Ended up looking like this Untitled by mboon, on Flickr My bonnet sound proof was filthy so had a stiff blush and went over it, not amazing but certainly better and lots of crap came out of it too Before Untitled by mboon, on Flickr After Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Next up I removed a few bits Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Was the standard kind of grime Before Untitled by mboon, on Flickr After Untitled by mboon, on Flickr I cleaned up everything before putting it all back together Ended up looking like this Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Untitled by mboon, on Flickr I have not replaced the screws as they have been painted, waiting for them to dry before fitting, if they look pants I will go buy all new. List of parts I am replacing Front fog lights Side rear window seals (bottom) both sides Steering wheel either new or leather sorted Might get the drivers side bolster reconditioned but its in pretty decent shape already so not urgent New washer fluid pump as I broke that one New clips for the side kit (one is broken but will replace all as they are cheap) Coil cover repainted, spoken to my paint guy who is sorting this. Scratch on the passage side which will need paint Future jobs: Clean the arches out Clean the back of the wheels Clean and degrees the actual engine Inspection 2 service Possibly take the front splitter off and the GT side splitter parts and re-paint. Is this satin black? Thanks for reading Mark |

Cheers mate. Mine need some paint so might just get them sprayed satin black and put back on, will tidy the front end up.
Well what can I say, payday happened ha. I have just purchased New fog lights New front M Sport bumper grill New drivers side wing mirror motor Also added to my cleaning kit 3 x Purple Monster drying and polishing towels 1 x Dodo juice shampoo 1 x detailing brush 2 x Wax/Polish Megs applicator pads 1 x Megs Polish 1 x Megs Yellow Wax #26 1 x Wash mit I have not bought any APC yet as most of the areas I would use that on I have cleaned with elbow grease but will get some next month or when I want to go over these areas again. I have still got to tackle the arches but thinking about getting some protection on the paint as I have not touched it since I compounded it. Fingers crossed if the weather is good and this lot turns up I will have a busy weekend |

Looking out the window this morning looked perfect for polishing... until I went outside! How bloody cold! Anyway, I manned up and went for it
Got to the car, moved everything so I could get her out and it would not start! Flat battery, so pushed it out and got the battery on charge Untitled by mboon, on Flickr So I start by wetting the car down Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Two buckets setup and using Dodo Juice Lemon zest Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Washed the car down with my new Mit Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Washed her down with plenty of water Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Used my new Purple monster drying towel which at first I thought looked pathetic but it really did work well, bloody cold hands though Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Dried off Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Next up was some polish, you will have to turn your head haha. I went with megs as I found them to be good in the pasted. Also using a Megs applicator pad Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Putting it on Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Another brand new Purple monster drying towel to remove the polish Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Removed Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Next up, the wax. When I opened the pot I thought it was all dried out and ruined but I was wrong. This stuff is really good! So easy to put on and take off. Again, put this on with an application pad Untitled by mboon, on Flickr And you guessed it, another Purple monster towel to remove the wax Untitled by mboon, on Flickr So like always with this country, it started raining! Lucky for me I seen it getting dark and removed the wax, put the battery back on and put her back in the garage just in time before it got wet Untitled by mboon, on Flickr A couple drops of rain got on her Untitled by mboon, on Flickr And a couple photos after the wax Untitled by mboon, on Flickr This photo shows the same spot on the rear spoiler that I took a before and after of earlier in the journal showing the difference between the compound. As you can see with the layers of polish and wax it has filled most of the swirls, not perfect by no means but not bad for my hands and elbow grease Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Bloody cat trying to sneak in Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Also had ago at cleaning the vanos Before Untitled by mboon, on Flickr After Untitled by mboon, on Flickr The biggest let down for the paintwork is sadly some vandalism!!! I would love to of known who did it (This was not done in my ownership) Front wing Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Door Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Rear quarter Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Yeah! Not happy about it but never mind hey. Got a guy I know who will hopefully cure this and the coil cover under the bonnet. Also have one dent that needs to come out as well. That is it for now. I have left the battery on charge and need to clean the glass as it is minging ha Cheers Mark |

Logbook arrived today which was nice
Untitled by mboon, on Flickr I am the 6th person to owner her :) Untitled by mboon, on Flickr I had some more paperwork to go in the history so sorted this out Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Untitled by mboon, on Flickr And some bits I have purchased so got them in order Untitled by mboon, on Flickr My bargain leather folder with all the books in Untitled by mboon, on Flickr This also arrived for the drivers side wing mirror... Can anyone tell me if the motors are the same throughout the E36 range? or does the M3 mirror have a different motor? Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Also bought one of these to do the arches with and any little odds and sods, always handy to have Untitled by mboon, on Flickr And this to give me more light in the garage at nights. The weather is really bad this end so getting the car out is not an option. Hoping to get the wheels off tomorrow and clean the arches but will have to do this in the garage Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Cheers Mark |

UPDATE:
Today I started on the arches, this was what it looked like Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Not good Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Untitled by mboon, on Flickr And this bit surprised me. The car has been sat in a dry warm well ventilated garage for a week since I cleaned her and this was still soaking wet! What a rubbish design, perfect place for dirt and stuff to build up and hold water Untitled by mboon, on Flickr After a scrub. Not gone over the top with these as I just wanted to clear any pockets of dirt that holds water Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Untitled by mboon, on Flickr And the trap. Untitled by mboon, on Flickr I did actually get it all out but didn't take a photo of it :( Untitled by mboon, on Flickr While in this area I notice this on the hub Untitled by mboon, on Flickr It also has the //M logo matching the break calipers etc... seems strange, anyone know what it means? Also noticed she will need new brake pads on the front soon Untitled by mboon, on Flickr This is how much crap came out from the arch Untitled by mboon, on Flickr So next up was the wheel. Now one thing you have to remember with this car, it has original none refurbished wheels so excuse the little dings and dents etc. Apparently when you get these wheels refurbished they only last around 1 year until they start going milky etc. Before Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Untitled by mboon, on Flickr After Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Next up was putting the wheel back on. It was a bugger to get off so dug out my copper grease Untitled by mboon, on Flickr I put a very small amount on the hub just to make it a little easier to remove the wheel at a later date Untitled by mboon, on Flickr And on the bolts themselves Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Its all about the small things ha So wheel back on without the arch lining as I had to remove the front bumper but had to move the car out to do so Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Untitled by mboon, on Flickr So next up was removing the bumper. I had a look around on forums etc and found a video on Youtube which showed the process. Great, followed, it came off. But!!! you can do this without removing the bolts under the arch linings These Untitled by mboon, on Flickr If you just undo the 4 bolts under the trim on the bumper it will slip straight out of these guides. Made the job more hassle than it had to be and I have to now try and line the bumper up good again So bumper off Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Untitled by mboon, on Flickr I am delving into this car and not finding any rust which is great news. Not even a bit of surface rust behind the bumper Removed the bumper to replace this which is broken Untitled by mboon, on Flickr After a few minutes looking it became apparent its a easy job made easier by removing the bumper Old and new Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Fitted into the bumper Untitled by mboon, on Flickr Fitted back on the car with the new fog lights (Bumper still needs adjustment) Untitled by mboon, on Flickr I have cleaned the passenger side arch as well and put the arch lining back in I have put some silicon stuff on the black to soak in and make it look a little darker... This stuff obviously will soak in, looks very glossy at the moment Untitled by mboon, on Flickr And that is it, car was put back on four wheels, put back in and left. Not sure when I will next be with the car as I have a kitchen being fitted and need to do some jigging of the house. So might not see her until next month. Cheers for reading Mark |

Went to see the car today.
This is what I was greeted with, looks OK from this far away But when you get up close you can see the dust and fibres So I did a couple things in preparation for tomorrow (if the weather is right) First things first, I removed the battery and put on charge as she was dead again. Next up was replacing the drivers side front wheel arch.... As the car would not start and I couldn't be arsed to move it out I jacked it up but found I could not get it right up to remove the wheel so fitted the arch lining with the wheel on. It was prob as easy to do with the wheel on as off And next up was some much needed fuel. This is the first fuel I have put into the car. And when did it cost the best part of £8 to fill a 5 litre fuel can!!! I also did some research on this, it would cost a few pence off £80 to fill a E36 M3 fuel tank, and only 30p per litre is not tax!!! Robbing b*st*rds this country!!! The cheapest place to buy fuel would cost me under 50p for a tank of fuel! Rant over I am trying to hunt down a new set of these as well... Or can I just get the rubber bits on the sides as the main kick plate is in good condition? I plan on getting her started tomorrow, out and cleaned down. I also plan on putting her on the road at the end of the month and use it on some dry days but will have to see how that goes |

WHAT A DAY!!!!
Today is the first time I have properly seen the car. I had all intentions of getting it out the garage and cleaning her down and getting back on track with the car. So I removed the front splitter and GT corner splitters Good to see genuine BMW items as well After this I went to Halfords, got some satin black paint and returned to the car, put the battery on and decided to check the fluids before I started. I popped the bonnet and my heart sank! Jaw hit the floor. I had a good look around and although was unlucky, must of been one of the luckiest people going... No electrics had been touched!!!! Just the pipe going to the washer jets and the washer bottle! I did have views of just offloading the car. Such a kick in the nuts. after double checking everything, hovering the engine bay out and having a fire extinguisher to hand I turned her over and she fired fine. No issues with any electrics and the damage was not too bad So I cracked on with taking the bits off the car and looking for replacement parts Removed some bits So I started with re-spraying the front splitters Got the car out and started to wet her down. I am impressed with the wax I used. The water just fell off the car. I jacked the rear up and cleaned the back arches out while cleaning her And then my little helper turned up in her matching coat :) Already a better driver than me. I then got this one to work... bloody thing. Turned out it was just stuck And some of her cleaned up and ready to go back in the garage And a couple my mate took with some setting on his camera |

Today I tackled the drivers side wing mirror motor which was not working. I have purchased a working motor
Found the motor cables were loses. Put back on and it now works fine Next up I wanted to remove the rear wheels and clean the backs out I made sure the bolts had copper grease on Next up was to remove the clips that hold the sunvisor in place. Completely fell a part once removed. Got some others turning up next week to replace And a little video from behind the old girl getting a gentle rev https://youtu.be/H6m21T7KlYM Edited by cre8 - 16 May 2014 at 6:41pm |

Get on eBay and find yourself an Optimate trickle charger which will ensure your battery is kept in fine fettle and ready to go when you want it :-)
Great article, good photos and lets see this at Gaydon Show & Shine or even the concours on the Saturday.
well done

The kick plates are now £81 plus vat, a massive price increase since I bought mine a couple of years ago, BMW know how to charge for parts, no wonder there profits are through the roof Do you know what chewed under your bonnet ?

I finally got the old girl on the road.
One tax disk, the last one this car will have due to the changes by DVLA She started first time which was nice, drove her back to mine and had a look around the car. Everything looked in shape A couple snaps of our BMWs before I cleaned the GT And some after a clean and a drive. These photos are at Haynes Motor Museum just up the road from me. Spent a fortune tarting this place up, looks really good And a couple videos of her being driven. Nothing crazy just getting her used to the road again https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3V8L6oBuH94&feature=youtu.be https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j40_wNrT2rc&feature=youtu.be I can also report back the car drove spot on! Think I have a very slight sticking caliper but could not hear it by the end of my 25 mile trip. Seems to pull as you would expect, handles well and no knocks or bangs. Got a few looks and some numpty in a Toyota Corolla with a dump valve try it on. I just laughed at the fool. All in all... a good day :) |
