Recent Thames Area Meeting at Holt Hotel near Steeple Claydon
The venue (Holt Hotel) chosen for this meeting was generally well received by members; it was easy to get too from some points of the compass but not so great for members from North of Oxford and perhaps the West too. Still the Holt was cosy, warm, decent meals and polite staff. I would like to thank all the members able to attend : Peter and Marion Collison, Bill Cumber, Amir, Geof Iredale and wife, Steve Rockingham, John Castle Paul Teall and last but not least George Champ(Director) who oversaw the meeting on behalf of the Club in accordance with his duties as Regional Director. From the members below we received apologies : Chris
Sawyer, Atul Vadgama, Chris Saunders,
Jamie Cousins, Robert Bridgeman, John
and Trish Stokes & Chris Sawyers. Thank you for sending in your apologies it is appreciated. Naturally we all hope to see you at the next meeting which will be at the Holt Hotel 26th November 2015 Here is a brief resume what was discussed at the meeting : Christmas Dinner due to the proximity of booking for the Dinner it was decided to forgo a Christmas Dinner/Meet for December. Factory ToursMini Cowley Oxford and Malvern Morgan - details to follow. Members invited to submit articles on their car plus photo to be submitted to Straight Six Magazine. Media facilities: Web sites to be arranged for Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter Region area: The Thames Region is mainly post codes beginning with OX covers most of Oxfordshire including Oxford Banbury Abingdon Bicester Witney Didcot Carterton Kidlington Thame Wantage Wallingford Chipping Norton Chinnor Woodstock Bampton and Burford plus small parts of Northants, Bucks, Berks, Glos, and Warwicks. So if any club member reading this they can make a decision if the Thames area is convenient. Events - John Castle came up with some very good
suggestions including Picnics at Prescott Hill Climb Events and Geoff Irdale
suggested that the Bicester Heritage
Events and the Bicester Flywheel Shows were
popular with Classic Cars of all marques. Coffee Meets can also be arranged and supported by Bicester Heritage. Broughton Castle near Steeple Aston
was worthy of a visit too. Perhaps Blenheim Classic Car Show maybe a targeted
main event as it was popular for BMWCC with August 2015. Falcon Car Club are
arranging a June tour of Central England and this maybe an event worth
following. George Champs Comments : George was asked what the board were doing as regards 2016 events (incl BMW Centenary 2016) and he assured everyone that the Club is working hard behind the scenes and will publish these as soon as possible. With Gaydon and Silverstone to mention but two, will of course play a major role. Marshalls will be required for these two events and Thames Region members will be expected to contribute – I hope!
Thames Region will need flags/banners and Jenn at the Office will get this under way.
Sponsorship As mentioned by George it is important that we seek out sponsors for our Region for instance George suggest liaising with North Oxford BMW , but I am not so sure as they are operating under strict budget guide lines. At the moment I am negotiating with their Marketing Manager Chloe Davies but am not holding my breath. For younger members with older cars an Independent Dealer might be useful so if any member can recommend an “Indy” please highlight it on the forum. Thats its folks – the next Meeting will again be held at the Holt Hotel Nr Steeple Aston on November the 26th 7.30pm. Late comers always welcome.
Apologies for forgetting to take a picture of the meeting – just forgot about it during the meeting.
