Hello, I wonder if you kind gents and ladies would be able to direct me in the right direction. I've tried searching the forum but couldn't find what I wanted. I live in High Wycombe and I'm looking for a recommended BMW specialist who would be able to carry out the change of the timing chain on my E90 320d. Reviews and advice is always great as I'm getting all sorts of prices.
Nothing is currently wrong with it and the car is only on 54k but I have that worrying thought in my mind. Thank you |

I thought the timing chains were good for the life of the engine, and were only replaced (or the tensioners anyway) when they sounded noisy (or more noisy than the standard diesel clatter).
If it's for peace of mind, and Amersham is not too far for you, then Phil Crouch seems to be highly recommended. Mine (admittedly on an S54 engine in a Z4) is at 150,000 miles. |

Thank you Tony! It's something to do with a connecting part to the chain which breaks, cause's the chain to stretch and then snap. I found out there was a quality enhancement offered to the previous owner to get this changed free of charge. They never went for it most likely because BMW didn't make it sound serious enough. Just a little concerned as I need the car for 300 miles each week ruffly and I don't fancy a huge bill.
Greatly appreciated again! |

Unfortunately BMW only covered this for a short period and wasn't down as a recall. So I'm out of luck really.

Sytner is the dealer in High Wycombe. Many BMW dealers give low labour rates for cars older than 5 years, so check with them. Also if you know what parts you need Sytner Nottingham give me 10%, never tried High Wycombe. Elms BMW which is now something else give 15% on parts as do I think Lancaster BMW at Milton Keynes.
BMW fitted parts come with a warranty, I am sure there are many good indy who can do the job, I am just risk adverse and any problems BMW have always rectified. |
