Topic: NEW NE Meet (Notts/Derbys.Posted: 11 Feb 2011 at 5:30pm |

An all new BMW Car Club meeting! Held on the first Monday of every month at The Elm Tree in Heath, just off the M1 at Junction 29 (A617). The website is http://www.theelmtreeheath.co.uk/
Directions? It’s easy. Come off at J29 of the M1, take the B6175 to North Wingfield. Drive along this road for 1/4 of a mile and take the first turning right. This takes you into Heath, and the Elm Tree is on the right, past two other pubs. It has a nice big car park and Heath is a very small and very nice village. We’ve used this place for our Xmas dinners and it’s very good - the food is outstanding yet not expensive. The first thing - you don’t need to be a BMWCC member to join us - if you have an interest in BMW’s, you are welcome to come along. We don’t bite and are definitely not snobby or standoffish. I don’t own a car worth more than a grand! For 14 years we used to meet at the Winsick Arms/Telemere Lodge, but it’s time for a change. We’re looking to really expand this meet and make it the best BMW monthly meeting in this area - we have a very wide range of German metal from E21’s to E46 CSL’s and we have all different takes on BMW. Some of us do trackdays, some do concours - some do both! Most of us do our own maintenance so if you have a car with an issue, we can point you in the right direction. In the summer, we used to have a good carpark full - we can only do this if you bring your car along! Please come and join us for a good feed, some very good local brews and nice cars. Any questions, please PM me or contact Steve Bostock on 07811 722742, and we look forward to seeing some new faces. |

As I thought - very little interest.
It seems as though most attendees won't be CC members, which is to be expected it seems. |

Try picking a weekend every so often and you might see a different response.
The meetings that started the other year near Lincoln were held on a Sunday afternoon during winter and the numbers soon picked up.
Unfortunately the organiser stopped and no-one took up the baton for the last season. Edited by hennabm - 29 Mar 2011 at 5:56pm |

Mike/Andrew
We have a similar problem elsewhere but think people also have other stuff to do at weekends and are busy weekdays - its the most difficult job to organise these events and frustrating when noone responds....anyone who makes the effort or organise or attend need supporting

I don't find attenting meets on weeknights a problem at all and yes, I work for a living. So do the 20 odd who are coming on the 4th.
The issue here is not your shift patterns, but the fact that I have not had a single response from this, the Car Club forum. The response from other forums has been very encouraging however. Quite frankly, I wonder why anybody bothers to join a car club if they don't want to travel 10-20-30 miles to attend a local meet. Are you saying the Car Club only has 5 or 6 members within 25 miles of Chesterfield? Where are all the club members in Sheffield and Mansfield? |

I'm sure it's just this lazy forum thats not giving you the feedback you desire. It's just the same when I post anything here - I think it maybe because we have a magazine as well that they may already know about stuff before they read it here. IMHO - weekday evenings are the way to go for monthly clubnights - weekends for family stuff. I usually attend 3 different clubnights each month (BMW, Westfield, Land Rover) - I wouldn't go to any if they were on a weekend. Yeah, It's a shame about the Lincoln one - maybe you should front it Mike

You're right about the magazine/forum.
We'll need to do a write up next week and get it in the mag ASAP. Trouble is, no pics as it gets dark at 7.30! |

The meet was a big success. No new BMWCC members, but a few E30 Zoners, Pistonheaders etc. From the usual 7 cars and 14 regulars we had 14 cars and 28 folk.
What can be done to contact the CC members in this area? |

Andy E the bank holiday is a problem some people do have to work so wont be there!unfortunately this also presents a problem most week nights so perhaps an occasional Sunday meet might go some way to help people who work shifts and don't do the 9 to 5, the only way i seem to be able to go is to book a days holiday. Also will we now be looking for a new venue for the Christmas meal? same old surroundings and all that ? and as far as travelling goes and you wondering why people should be in the club if they was not prepared to travel am i right in thinking this new venue is nearer for you? |

Yes, it's a whole 2 miles closer to me...........
We've had bank holiday meets at the old place for the last 13 years. Some can make it, some can't. If I can't make it, that's just my hard luck. Bank Holidays can also mean that folk haven't been at work so are more likely to turn up. We had almost 30 turn up to the April meet - we've not had that at the old place for a long time. |

Enough said about what exactly? 2 miles? Really??
Also, regular as in 8-12 times a year? BMW CC members were outnumbered this time but it doesn't have to be that way if we can get through to the other local members. But if anyone thinks they can do better in revitalising the regional meet, don't let me stop you. |

Well, our second meeting at the Elm Tree was a big success - 21 cars and well over 30 folk.
30 cars next month?

I too was somewhat aprehensive about a new venue Terry but having been to both April & May meets there is once again a real buzz. Alot of banter and now lighter nights car park full of 'our' BMs. Try it sometime soon it is not as bad as just sitting in the last eatery amongst all the rest of the punters.
With regards weekends I think the NE / Peak&S.Yorks calanders must be quite full during next few months with all kinds of venues many for whole family. Renishaw is weds afternoon/evening, Ashover sunday, so to be fair I think there is alot of choice..see other regions and wemust offer greater variety.
It is appreciated not everone can get to all events and work does interupt us all so you can only get to those working hours permit, but do try monday 6th June and you may well be pleasently suprised.
In meantime hope your cleaning the 5er ready for Harewood :-)
see you soon or give me a call.

That was a good meet,
lots of nice cars and some new faces ..but why do they always close the M1 northbound everytime I come to the Chesterfield meet. Had to come off at J30 and find a back way home

A couple of photo's,not from last night's meet as photobucket is playing me up,but the one before!
![]() Andy's Morris dancing mates...
![]() ![]() At last night's meet we filled the carpark with member's cars, from three E30's(including an M3)a handfull of Z3/4's and a very clean E28 525e,were just a few highlights.
This meet is a 50 minute drive for us,but well worth the effort for the banter and decent beer.

Hi All
I've only just recently joined the club. I only live about 10 mins away from the Elm Tree. I will do my best to attend a meet. I'm currently serving in the Royal Navy and am based in Glasgow. Mid week meetings for me are not possible. If i'm on leave, I promise to attend. Are there plans for a meet at the beginning of September as i have 2 weeks leave? Hope it continues to be a success.

Can you please confirm the meet will take place at the Elm tree as someone has recently stated that it will be at the New Inn Winsick. What time does everyone usually turn up? Lee
