Hi, does anyone know where can I find
legitimate BMW battery distributors?
I have no luck in finding one. Any recommendation would be greatly appreciated! Edited by TomiSharpe - 02 Jun 2021 at 8:18am |

You do not give us any information - how old is your battery - how long does your wannty have to go, has the car been troublesome, and have you mentioned your battery problem to the warranty company or dealer? If you need to buy an OEM battery to keep your BMW warranty going, there is no choice but a BMW dealer - if you search around you may find one who charges fairly sensible money - but you will have to pay then £100 to tell you what you already know! IF you have a new-ish model, the battery capacity monitor will have to be reset after fitting a new fully -charged battery, so factor this into the overall cost. Any decent specialist will do this - probably free if they supply the new battery. Having said that, OEM batteries can be as good as the best - my original lasted 12 years - but the replacement Varta Silver has now beenin use for ten years without any problems. IF you have a third party warranty then talk to the company and see if they will be happy with a decent battery such as Varta or Bosch. Warranties are aimed at frightening owners into paying over the odds for everything, just in case their 'wonderful' BMW gives trouble - in which case you would be better advised to find a good specialist. My experience with BMW's New Car Warranty was that it is a con trick run by people with little integrity . . . At the end of the day the answer is to use your common sense and judgement on value for money.

Bought an AGM Bosch battery for my E65, cured all faults and lights, not cheap, but supplied via BMW Main dealer Vines Gatwick. No complaints, my view as one of the most essential components why skimp?

Recently purchased a Varta Silver for my E24 from Tayna UK via the internet. Decent price and quick delivery.

There's a whole country full of them - they're called BMW DEALERS! ...or do you mean "Where can I find a Genuine BMW battery without paying the BMW Dealer premium?"? You can probably get an 'OEM' or 'OE equivalent' from anywhere that sells Bosch, Varta, Yuasa, Exide, etc. but it won't be a 'genuine' one or have the BMW stamp/codes on it.

I would avoid Yuasa and Exide, for however excellent they appear to be (and Yuasa in particular are very good) Their CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) figure - which gives a good idea of their extreme qualities - is tested for 30 seconds to meet SAE standards, whereas the DIN rating of Bosch and Varta etc. means that they have to pass their CCA for 60 seconds, which is a far more stringent test. If you really want a battery with a BMW logo and part number on it, then go ahead and pay the price of an excessive originality fetish! Remember however that a genuine BMW battery is no better than a battery of similar capacity from Bosch, Varta, Sonnenschien or Mareg, all of which meet DIN standards.

I am not sure BMW make batteries? Therefore, yes just a logo. I am sure Bosch make the BMW ones for some models certainly the larger cars?

Naturally, BMW do not make batteries - or most parts of their cars. Their branded batteries are very good, but are no better than other good quality batteries made to complay with the same standards. The battery in my Z3 was made by an American company I had never heard of - but it lasted for 12 years. This shows that you do not even have to have a German battery to have long life - just one made by a decent manufacturer, and tested to DIN standards. A good example are the American-made Hawker batteries, which go on for ever, and are designed to tolerate abuse which would terminally cripple a lot of batteries. You get what you pay for . . .

So thats 22 years Mike plus 12 for the American one = 34 years for 3 batteries. Now that is a result Mike |
