First post here and I need a bit of help if possible, I bought a 335d 2 weeks ago which wasn’t getting upto temp an was only hitting 65-75

It would go upto over 90 if idling but as soon as I started driving it would come right back down

I’ve since put 2 new main thermostats on it (not from bmw) and was no different and if anything was a bit worse as it was only running about 55-60 so today I’ve replaced it with a genuine one from bmw and it’s still not getting upto temp and only hitting 65-75, if it hits 75 with a bit of sitting in traffic it will come back down to 65 ish when driving again

The EGR cooler has been removed and previously mapped out before I bought it along with the dpf and swirl flaps so I know it can’t be the thermostat on the EGR cooler

Only codes when scanned are for glow plugs and auxiliary water pump

Anyone got any ideas what it could be? Thanks

Simply changing components in the hope that the problem will go away seldom does anything except  empty your wallet!

The post-1998 electrically-operated thermostat is somewhat different fom the traditional type, in that it has two water valves, and operates as a changeover valve.  If the problem really does concern the thermostat, it sounds as if yours is stuck in the mid range.

What is the problem with the aux water pump?  Have you tested the coolant temperature in the header tank and at the output of the aux pump? it could be that it is circulating coolant which should go through the engine, and therefore providing additional unwanted cooling.

Are you aware that removing the DPF will contitute an MoT failure?

If the car isn’t getting upto temp then the first port of call would be the thermostat which is why I changed it but not for a genuine bmw one so when the problem persisted I changed it for a genuine bmw one, I’m not sure anyone would of done anything different as car not hitting temp would usually be thermostat

Thanks for your comment regarding the dpf but unless I’m mistaken I don’t recall anywhere in this post asking for advice on the dpf so let me worry about that

I don’t worry about it, not one little bit but that’s for your concern
