There is an opportunity open to BMW Car Club for a track morning at Goodwood.
Before people start leaping up and down, this cannot be organised by the Club, Goodwood does not and will not allow car clubs to organise their own track day, the offer is due to the fact they now have BMW UK Limited as the major user of Goodwood after leaving Silverstone. The offer is for a max of 40 cars of which max 10 cars be on track at any one time. The cars must meet the 98dB limited. The cost is 4000 pounds which looks like 100 pounds per car and an average of 52.5 minutes per car on track. Clearly the number of cars can be reduced so double the time on track and double the price. This post is only to see if anyone is at all interested? It is not meant to be compared with anything the Club offers currently. The may be some benefit to those who live in the South as all club track days appear to be a few hundred miles away and start, naturally early. Goodwood also have a track experience whereby you can drive new BMW cars including M and Alpina on the track, we can obtain prices if anyone is interested. |

Thank's for this Norman I'm sure it will have some appeal.
Let me know if you want me to forward anything in an email to the Trackday Register members.
Goodwood is available to hire if we want it, our own trackday there would have to be charged out at around £400 each for the day, so your £100 morning looks like good value. |

Nick thanks for those words. I would appreciate if you could highlight the offer, it is not the cheapest place and they have different rules about numbers, but it might provide a dynamic for us southern softies (well me). I also am not contradicting the availability for the club to do it themselves, just going on what we were told, maybe they discounted that we would pay full price and 400 is not cheap is it?

Norman when we spoke to Goodwood previously the trackdays are sessioned as time is limited I assume that's still the case also that numbers on track are limited can you remind me of the numbers as from memory they were about 20

Neil. Yes you are correct and the max number is 10. I appreciate this is totally different to regular club days, we are trying to find something for those of us who live in the south. We are also trying to find a way that some people who do not want track time more than this can get the experience without it being half the cost of a weeks holiday.
I was chatting to a lady with a M3 at the pub and she does regular track days, by the time she has paid for her fuel to the event and a hotel over night she said she is adding around 200 pounds to the cost of her day. This would be better much the same for some of us, unless we are up at a very early time. Edited by Norrie - 29 Mar 2016 at 8:44am |

I have been invited to attend Goodwood for s corporate trackday with the club car later this year so we might be an opportunity to take some pictures to promote the idea but it's fallen down in the past due to noise, numbers and costs but always worth s try

Yes they are only offering 98Db, hence the low numbers. Also I fear for Goodwood after the incident at 74th where a car landed in the tunnel entrance and thank goodness no one was killed.
The also have around 50 BMW cars which people can drive around the track including one ALPINA and some M, I guess this is quite expensive. |

Have i misunderstood your post Norrie ? £100 for 52 mins ? seems a lot more expensive than the Track Days organised by Nick..

Dave, No you have not misunderstood the equation, that is about right. However, Dave, for me as an example. I live 40 minutes away, it does not cost me a fortune in fuel to get there and I don't have to get up in the middle of the night or take overnight accommodation. I only have to share the track with 9 other cars as a maximum. I personally don't want an all day track experience so roughly an hour suits me and may suit others as an experience. Goodwood also has new BMW M and Alpina and other models if people want to drive those and pay for that separately.
This really should not be compared with those events organised very expertly by Nick and the Club as it really has nothing to do with that. What we have here is the potential opportunity for some people, who one assumes would be from the South to experience some time on the track and have the sure knowledge there are not loads of others on there and that it is organised by Goodwood. If not enough people want to do it, then no problem, those that can afford the 400 pounds track day cost will do it anyway. I think in my own case I would be no worse off financially paying that as opposed to flogging it up to Lincolnshire or further north, would I? What I am trying to do is offer an alternative. I would be interested in this, assuming MINIs are acceptable and depending on date. I used to go to Club Lotus and Lancia days at Goodwood, which were organised by the Clubs concerned rather than Goodwood (or at least that was my understanding).

Hi
I am a new member from Bournemouth and I would be interested in this idea going forward as a morning sounds great and not too intense for a start. ( would be post June when car arrives) I haven't been on a track day before and wondered how you know if your exhaust meets the noise level? Thanks Andy |

One check manufactures specification, secondly find someone local you can get it checked. They always check before letting on track, so best to know before committing.

You can get a sound meter app for your smartphone that will give you a good idea if you are near the limit.
Point your phone at the exhaust from around 4' away and get some one to run the engine up to around 4000rpm. Most road going BMW's will show low to mid 80's on the db scale, which is low enough to get on any venue that I know about
