Hi Adam
Looking at the photos, body wise looks like it just needs a good machine polish. Like you mentioned it has been neglected but with the work done & what you have planned, you should have a good car that hopefully you’ll have some great driving time in.

I have seen at the bmw national festival a company that does recovering of steering wheels that would probably work out cheaper than a new one. I think it is an exchange system but i may be wrong.

Regards
Rich

Try Royle steering wheels, who are not too expensive and have a very good reputation.

I have not spoken with anyone who has a de-cat exhaust and can honestly say  that it makes the car go any better.  This is a tale frm the dawn of time, when catalytic converters were quite obstructive.  Apart frm that, it is an MoT failure, and if stopped at a mobile emissions check, your car could be crushed.

The usual excuse is that a de-cat gives a 'Throatier and deeper' exhaust note . .  . in other words noisier, which simply draws attention to yourself and can result in a compulsory test.  Noise is something for those who are immature, deaf, or have an inferiority complex and seek attention!  Don't do it, please.

You would be better advised to fit larger-bore inlet manifold from an old M50 engine, which liberates about 30 bhp and 30 lb-ft, transforming the engine without any penalties.

Thanks Mike, yeah it came with the car had to take it off for the MOT, never had one before. So thats good to know - i was thinking of just getting rid as i think it would also make my car drink more fuel!!

i'm going to be doing 35miles a day in the car so i need to be tight.

Rich thanks for knowledge i need to give it a good clean and try do something about the roof!
as for the steering wheel i like the design i have and yes a restore would be nice, i just think its a little too big.. wanted a "bmw" steering wheel not just a "drift car" steering wheel. would either the place you and Mike suggested help out with this at all?
Cheers Adam

hi adam
regards to the steering wheel you would have to give royal steering wheels a call 01296709817 they are in aylesbury. Have a look at their website for more info & pictures etc.
