I treated Bessie (my E46 325 convertible) to a tub of Meguiars Ultimate Leather Balm yesterday, with the intention of doing the front seats.
But obviously I don't know jack about anything so I won't bother telling you about it. Go target someome else. I'm done with this forum. Over and out. Edited by N-Dog - 13 Apr 2020 at 12:10pm |

I.ve always used Gliptone leather cleaner followed by Gliptone conditioner, leaves a real smell of new leather after treatment..

Yes I also use Gliptone products and always get great results, cleaning the leather first is as important as conditioning. |

As i found out during my many years in concours shows .. If you condition leather without cleaning it first you are only rubbing the dirt further into the leather...

I use Lederzentrum products. Three steps for a quick renovation. About 8 steps for a tough job on a convertible.
There are all in one products out there, but I know how effective I am when I try to multi-task.

I honestly dont believe applying one product, rubbing it into the leather can remove the ingrained dirt ? i,m convinced from past experience as a BMWCC Concours winner including the ELITE CLASS that rubbing one product only moves the dirt around... My E36 M3 Had silver grey leather which looked like it had never been sat on after 60k miles.. Maybe products have improved over the years but ask any Decent Detailer and i bet they use a cleanser and a conditioner..

Well you appear to endorse Meguiars here, Dave..... https://www.flickr.com/photos/bmwccgb/7846834938 https://www.flickr.com/photos/bmwccgb/7846833888/in/photostream/ I note the registration is now on a green Isuzu. What happened there? Edited by N-Dog - 15 Apr 2020 at 7:05pm |

We won some prizes as well (seems like a lifetime ago now) at BMWCC regional level proudly using Zymol products throughout. But the club was sponsored by another waxing company and it was that companies branding on the club photos and the winners prizes. You would have been forgiven for thinking all the winners had used their wax when in fact hardly any of them had. |

OK, thanks to all for your comments and suggestions. I'll stick with Meguiars, as the previous owner did. Although I do like my cars to look their best, I will not be entering the Convertible in any Concours competitions, as A) I'm not really that competitive and B) because Bessie has a spot on the bonnet where a stone chip has been poorly attended to, and to address that properly would mean a re-spray of the whole front end of the car, to get a colour match.
So, Meguiars is fine with me, as although Bessie is cherished with care, she will never win any Elite trophies. I have bought some Meguiars Gold Class Leather Cleaner, and some Meguiars Gold Class Leather Conditioner. You will recall that I had used the Ultimate Leather Balm, as the pack said it is a 3-in-1 product. On the advice of the forum, I will give the leather THREE goes with the cleaner (that's an extra go to remove the balm) then two goes with the conditioner, then finally two goes with the Balm. With a days breathing space between cleaning and conditioning, and between conditioning and balming, it is a 9-day job, but I don't mind, and I'm looking forward to seeing the results. As for premium brands, there are so many, and I suppose it is down to each individuals choice. My old stocks of Auto-Glym now serve only my daily driver (62-plate Mazda 3) and the wifes 15-plate Mazda 2! And when those stocks are used up, all three will benefit from the Meguiars treatment. However, I'm so impressed with the Meguiars Perfect Clarity Glass Cleaner that I used on Bessie, that I'll now use it on the other two as well. |

In reply to N-DOG, the BMWCC was sponsored by Meguiars at the time i won the ELITE CONCOURS.. As for the reg number i,m amazed you have taken the time to trace it..? As my late father once said to me it says polo mints on the bus adverts but they don,t sell them...For the record i used many Meguiars Products over the years and found them to be ok..This is in ref to the link N-DOG posted.

I use meguiars ultimate range product’s. I am using the gold class rich leather at the moment on my car. My car has black interior & can still see the grime it removes by the state of the white microfibre pad I use, mainly from the drivers seat because the others don’t get used much. Will probably try something else when I run out. This is my daily driver & my only car, so it’s not a garage queen.

LOL mine IS a bit of a garage queen tbh !! I'll post some pictures of the leather once it's finished.
I am utterly ashamed to admit that I neglected the leather on my two old Mondeos.... I owned two different 07-reg Mondeo Ghia X TDCi's between 2009 and 2016 (separately, not at the same time!), both with black full leather, and to my eternal shame I don't think I cleaned or conditioned the leather once. So I offer my apologies to the subsequent owners of WV07 MXH (which I believe is dead) and WG07 OGD (which is still going strong). https://www.flickr.com/photos/184582740@N02/49782936453/in/dateposted-public/ Edited by N-Dog - 17 Apr 2020 at 7:20am |

Long story. I actually owned THREE, the first was EX04 GVU, a black 2.0 TDCi Ghia, but I can't recall it being leather. And the last one, OGD, I actually owned TWICE.... bought it from a guy in Gloucester who didn't want to sell it (don't ask) then sold it back to him, then bought it back off him a second time, before finally trading it in on the Mazda. I once owned the same little 50cc twist-n-go moped THREE TIMES - but to be fair, it had sentimental value, as it used to belong to my late first wife, who passed in 2009. In November 2019 I restored it, and gave it to the David Silver Honda Motorcycle Museum, in Leiston, Suffolk, where it stands today as a static exhibit, with a plaque next to it inscribed in her memory. It's a yellow ND50 MC, more commonly known as a Melody II Deluxe; B712 OPV. https://www.flickr.com/photos/184582740@N02/albums/72157713925729958 |
