    Posted: 18 Aug 2015 at 2:56pm
Has anyone any suggestions as I would like to have a USB charger operating off the E30 cigarette lighter.

So far BMW online have said that none of their units will work with the "Old" models pre-E36, but this cannot be the first time this has come up.

The other generic USB chargers are too thin and so break connection - anyone have any solutions or know someone in BMW that could talk sense?

you could wire in a more modern plug under the dash - I recently wired in some twin USBs into an E36 for a customer

I use a unit that has 3 cigarette sockets & 2 USB ports that plugs into my e46 cigarette lighter socket which works good. I got mine from a store that sells all sorts of things for about £5 & have no problems with it & it is the same kind of thing you see in motorist stores or petrol stations.

I use a GPS in the E30, using a standard 'modern' charge lead plugged into the 1988 cigarette lighter. I don't see why any USB charger from an electrical store won't work just as well.

NickDE,

I have tried a Garmin, official Iphone charger and others that I use in my CLS and transporter and they all wiggle about and loose contact - not the unit itself as it is a new lighter unit from BMW....

Thanks for your input - maybe it is a rubber band around the charge lead :-)
