I was at Goodwood, and sorry to hear that Mithril Racing who have been at the circuit for over 30 years are closing due to lack of customers and profitability.

The events were mostly for corporate customers, Alfa sponsored some of it, they had a few supercars Ferrari, Lambo, Aston etc . The owners Paul Mullen & Chris Taylor said they could no longer risk losing money.

Evidently demand dropped as Goodwood has been pushing its own track events and has teamed up with BMW UK, they have about 50 cars there including M5, M4, M2 and an ALPINA, but pretty much most of the other new popular sporty BMW.

The great thing about Goodwood is most days except Mondays there is something going on, free entry and free parking, a chance to walk around cars and chat to owners. I appreciate most people will be working or it might be too far, I am lucky 30 minutes away.

I raced against Chris Taylor a few times many years ago. Also attended a good few AROC track days too, sad to hear this.

That is the risk of having a business which is  largely dependent upon corporate tax-deductable perks.

Mind you - the same can be said of BMW(GB), Formula 1, etc.  As the world financial situation worsens I would expect to see some major changes.

I was at a lunch at Silverstone last weekend, was not surprised to hear that it is up for sale, the deal with Landrover Jag to buy it fell though. Interesting it was claimed that the F1 was being subsidised by the other events. It is a very much under utilised facility, some race meets do not attract more than a couple of hundred spectators. The whole place is open and a far better location than Gaydon, some other clubs run their annual event alongside the racing which is not specific to their vehicle type but gives some added action to a static event.
