If you are traveling to France after 31st March 2017 you must display a vehicle emission badge in the city's of Paris,Lyon or Grenoble or face a on the spot fine €135.
The badge can only be ordered online from the French Emvironment Ministry Website at a cost of €4.80 including postage.
You CANNOT buy one in France, also you need to allow up 30 days for it to arrive after ordering.

Mike, thanks for the info, we're off on our annual trip to the South France in August and spending a couple of night's in Grenoble on the return journey so will obviously need an emissions badge. Just a couple of questions though, I presume it's not transferable badge say if I change my car before August and I also presume it's just valid for 1 year from the date of purchase, correct?

The badge is issued to the car with the registration printed on it and is valid as long as the information can be read.   It cannot transferred to another car.     In Grenoble the badge is only needed when the air is quality is poor but without a badge you cannot enter.

Do the badges take into account the emissions level of the specific car, or is it just a hidden tax ?
