I was surprised to see an E39 silver 523i at the NEC for sale at 6495 plus vat. It was in fairly good condition, except the original tape deck and radio ripped out.
I got one for 500 pounds and driven it 40,000 miles since I got it. Is this the price low mileage E39 now go at over 6K? Edited by Norrie - 11 Dec 2017 at 7:15pm |

People will only pay what they want Norrie, its all down to condition etc but if someone is looking for a good car regardless of model i suppose they would pay top money...

Tells you all you need to know about prices at the NEC.
Graeme Hunt were advertising an E24 635 CSi Highline at £32,750. Same car was (and still is) on their website at £29,750. A job for Trading Standards? |

I guess there are many examples of what one might consider over priced vehicles? However, these speculators must feel that someone will purchase or indeed it gives them plenty of wriggle room in a negotiation.
We have seen this in particular with the ALPINA RLE (Z1) and the 8 series ALPINA B12 5.0 and 5.7 models. I simply guess it depends on how much disposable income one has? |

Anything is only worth what the buyer wants to pay, which is which property prices for the same size house differ from location to location. Depends how much the person wants a vehicle and how much they have to spend. Some suffer from auction fever and pay perhaps too much. The was a nicely refurbished 2002 on the BMW Club stand, in a shade of some original yellow, asking price 50K. For me I would not give you 50 pence (unless it was making an attempt for profit). Not because the car was not good or appeared to have been restored badly (what do I know?), but because I did not like the model or the colour, which is exactly the reason why other people do pay over the odds money.

Absolutely right Norrie
It was a stunning car though which appeared to be done to a very high standard. No doubt there will be a buyer out there somewhere.

Well he stood around like a Lemon for how long 3 days, but does not yet appear to have found anyone? That colour yellow is something which I guess either appeals or does not, it's hardly neutral. I never have owned or been interested in a bright colour car that sticks out, but like you say for someone it will be the most desirable thing at 50K.
