Ok, just recently bought my old E36 328 sport back, its a 96 model. The car had been stood for about 18months and not only was the battery flat it turned out to be failed. So i fitted a new battery once i connected it the alarm bleeped for a few seconds then stopped. I could then start the car and drive it. Shortly after i locked and alarmed it from the fob. Its the single button type. So its been stood a week waiting to go to the garage for an Mot , oil change, general check over and some minor paintwork. When i came out to unlock the car this morning the alarm wouldnt come off by the fob but i did open the door by the key which sub sequentially triggered the alarm for a half a minute or so. Car started with no issue and i took it to the garage. However it wont lock through the fob. Now i havent changed the fob battery but just wondered if due to the car being stood does it need some sort of reprogramme ?

Hi, there just returned to forum after a while away.
Anyway, the likelihood is that the battery in the fob needs changing.
I wouldn't imagine that the alarm would be affected by being stood for a length of time. Unless it has been messed with in some way before your ownership. I had a similar problem on one of my e36's and changing the battery resolved the problem. Hope this helps.
Mike
