Contact BMW Classic in Munich ?
This month's Practical Classics has an article on how to refurbish shock absorbers.

manage to sort it.....finding a replacement proved difficult as BMW dealer gave me the wrong part code....managed to speak to Dave at Mansfield Shock Absorbers who corrected my search ( very helpful chap ) But once the mechanic had striped it down for replacement he found the sleave just needed tightening.....a lot of mucking about but glad I cured the annoying knock. Does anyone know if the chrome sill embelishers were an option, my car has them but some don't and looking at period photo's some have them fitted some have none and other have a thin chrome strip.
