I live in France, yet was unaware that the 90 kph speed limit on single-carraigeway roads has, from 1 July, been reduced to 80 kph!  The reason is allegedly to reduce accidents, but no-one believes this, as most accidents occur in built-up areas, as in the UK.  In a recent opinion poll, 76% of French people were not in favour.

On my return from the UK last week I noticed that some of the 90 kph signs have been replaced by 80 kph, but do not assume that all 90 kph signs mean what they say!  There were no warning signs in either the Dover or Calais ferryports.

With only 2 kph (1.5 mph) tolerance from modern speed cameras, a holiday could be expensive, as I am told that the UK has quietly signed the cross-border policing agreement - does anyone have definitive information on this?
