It appears that some members of the public are getting large bills from motorway maintenance companies. Why? If they had a minor accident (Motorway) say a small shunt and even if the road is not closed bills to the individual for things such as oil deposits, barrier repairs, maintence crews etc are being sent to some drivers.
There is a report case of a lady who was charged 3000 pounds as her car was facing the wrong way after a shunt. This evidently is not covered by the general motor insurance policy, so I suggest that all concerned look closely at thier policy.
If you are unfortunate to have an accident make notes of who attends, what they do, how long they are there and if infact they actually do anything. This includes Police, Highway patrol and any maintenance crews. Take names, company names, vehicle registrations, times, dates etc. Note if there was a spillage or are you paying for nothing?
If you are defending any claim ask for proof, they have CCTV so ask for proof they fixed or cleared up something, never, just pay!
This just sounds like another attack on the motorist and a money making venture for some.

Thanks for the tip Norrie. Seems a bizarre state of affairs though, isn't this one of the things that we pay our road fund licence for?

Ian, had I not actually seen the clip on BBC TV I would have been suspicious that this was a wind up. I really think the whole aim is to discourage people from driving. The negatives to driving now are massive and if you are under 25 even worse. I would like to see the Club have some kind of blanket insurance for this specific type of thing that would cover members, if enough subscribed the premium would be fairly small per car, however I think that if one approaches their car insurer and asked for it to be added the cost would be excessive.
