    Posted: 06 Jun 2012 at 7:17pm
Silverstone BMW Trackday, Monday 24th September 2012

Full 'Arena' GP Circuit
Open Pitlane
Full use of the entire Silverstone 'Wing' garages
Free ARDS instruction - 3 of my guys are ARDS grade S 'super-instructors'
Dedicated instruction and classroom sessions for the novices
Friendly club atmosphere
Non member guests welcome
Non BMW's welcome
Trophies and prizes

BMWCC Members £275 - Guests £325 - that's by far the cheapest day at Silverstone this year

I keep the entry numbers low so we all get plenty of time on circuit.

Over 30 years at Silverstone - we have been coming here each Autumn since the 80's!
The daddy of all Club trackdays - This for us is where it all began, out on the grand prix circuit and we are still enjoying it.
We don't share with anyone, we bite the bullet and book the whole place as an exclusive hire, we always have - not a bad achievement for a small one marque members club!
If you only do one trackday this year, do this one - nobody runs a Silverstone trackday like we do!

Have you seen whats on at Silverstone on September 22/23
It's the day before we go for our trackday
http://www.britcar24hr.co.uk/cms/24hr.php

The Britcar 24 Hr racing will 'rubber in' the circuit nicely for us!

Do you fancy seeing the 500hp M3 GTR's close up and get to see the action from the pit lane?

I'm going to try and get us all a parking area right in the paddock - and there is a club deal on the price - use this link to make your booking and don't forget to say you are with the BMW Car Clubhttp://www.britcar24hr.co.uk/cms/news.php?item.1272

I can't think of a better start to a BMW trackday than this

Hope to see some of you there

Regards
Nick

This event is starting to pick up a good few bookings now.
I will be promoting this day like mad when we are at Silverstone Classic.. so don't go letting me sell your place to someone else.. if you want to come I need to know.
Both trackdays prior to this one had sold out ahead of the event and left late bookers disappointed

You know you want to come - call me now!

Our resident snapper Darren Teagles has just confirmed he will be coming to do the pictures again.
They will be hosted on Flickr again so that you can get them all free of charge.

Here is the link to last years pictures
http://www.flickr.com/photos/bmwccgb...7627555035573/

Bob Harper, editor of BMW Car magazine, will also be there to do a feature on the day

We may also get some TV, I'm hoping BMW's in house production team will come and do some coverage for one of their promotional videos.

.. so if you don't want to be spotted on camera or TV, get some gaffer tape for your number plate!

I'm booked onto this one and looking forward to it.  Thanks for all your organizational efforts in putting it together.

Is it possible to pre-book the instructors?

On the handful of previous track days I've done, including one on the shorter International Circuit at Silverstone last month, I bought a couple of 20 minute instruction sessions that were really useful.  Can you tell me how does it work at this event?

Nick, thanks for all you efforts today at Silverstone. The weather was against us, however a master stroke getting Silverstone to allow everyone back at no extra cost on a date to be announced, that is those who paid today.

a moist day was had by allConfused

indeed, nicks relationship with with circuit organisers really paid off today as i believe silverstone didnt have any obligation to offer any form of compensation due to adverse weather conditions.

I enjoyed the raffle, and glad the prizes I donated were chosen by some lucky winners. I have the BMW tie (prize) which was clearly left with me in mind, but a good number of prizes which I am sure were appreciated.

Next time, same location, cold and dry will be acceptable!

er, the raffle...... its unfortunate that i do tend to have more than my fair share of luck with winning (shame i'm not so lucky with the lottery).
blimey, there was an awful lot to choose from. i just saw one of des's hats there and whipped it away leaving all the more valuable prizes for the other winners (i hadnt seen the tieLOL)

i may just tuck into one of those stella bottles which i also won (theres that lucky streak again), no idea who donated them but  Beer cheers and see you all at silverstone round 2Thumbs Up

Yes. I have booked. paid.Booked in the Green man. Bought a new helmet. Had my car serviced. New wiper blades fitted. All we need now is a competent driver (Oh that's me). Pray for dry weather, just returned from a freezing wet and wind Brands hatch this afternoon.

The rearranged trackday 23rd Nov 12 at Silverstone was fantastic. This was my first time on the track and I would recommend it to anyone. I was apprehensive, however this is so well organised and coordinated. Nick Wright and his team work really hard to ensure it is all smooth.

I got a free session with and instructor, which taught me two things, firstly it was a long time ago and many miles since I had anyone telling me where I was going wrong, secondly despite have driven many miles the track experience is totally different.

There were two sessions exclusively for novices, which means less cars on the track at that time and help you get a good idea of what you should do and also an opportunity for everyone first just to go around the track fairly slowly for the same reason.
When you are more experienced there is no speed restriction, but safety os always first.
You have your own pit garage. It is worth every penny and I am looking forward to the next one! The sun even shone.

Think of the millions of car drivers in the UK, how many can say they have driven on the full F1 Silverstone circuit?

glad you enjoyed it norrieBig smile, more of the same next year
track conditions were not great in the morning but to me its probably the best chance you get of learning where the grip is and how you and the car react. every corner presents a different challengeThumbs Up

it was nice to have a couple of hours dry running. still slightly greasy in some areas but overall the pace was pretty much flat outWink

it was a real pleasure in handing over the reigns to the new "free trackdays all years" raffle winner.

finally, nick, you are a starStar, thankyou for making it all possible (where would we be without you)
i really do look forward to these days, its a real treat for me and the best bit, i have some really great pals to play out with who share my passion of "spirited" driving

see you all next year and..............have a happy christmasBeer

There is always much debate within a Club about what should be offered in terms of events. This one I appreciate does cost the individual money and far more than the cost of membership.

However, even if it was once only it is an experience which is really up there with "things to do" or achieve I believe.

Over the years I have been fortunate to be invited to many Corporate events in all sorts of fields of activity. However, there is little to beat the actual taking parts, using you own car, being in control and measuring yourself and skills without taking unacceptable risks or posing them to others.

It was good to see that participants listened to the advice given and the briefing and no matter how many times they have heard it before it is very important.

Very good luck to the lucky man who won a how seasons trackdays and also no matter which prizes are in the raffle they are always good for people to win.

I have to say of all the activities I have done in the last 18 months this by far exceeds the rest and exceeded my expectations.

I would however urge people to given their full support to the Club and Nick Wright who work so hard to give us what we want. Fantastic!

Photos.....I went a bit trigger happy on Friday and took over 2, 150 photos......usually I end up with about 50% of what I started with what with duplicates and not so good shots....

I am working my way through them and hope to have them sorted out by the end of next weekend.

Think about what you can do for the club, not what it can do for you...

What a great day out at Silverstone!

I had a fantastic day.   The on track action, the people, the spirit of the day and the raffle!

For me it was day full of "first's" - so a lot of learning for me, about my driving, my car, the track and the BMW Car Club track day community!

By the last track session I was feeling much better about my driving, starting to use the right lines, and catching and passing cars that at the beginning of the day had flown past me!

- First track day for me in my own car (only other experience is 10 laps around Castle Combe in a friends E30 M3).

- I've never driven my M5 (a white 1991 E34 3.6) on a track before.
in fact the car has never been on a track, and, has only recently become suitable for such use  - I've been slowly but surely restoring the car since December 2008 when I bought it (on ebay!)

- I've never driven on a track on road tyres (only race tyres - mainly slicks)

- First time ever on Silverstone GP circuit for me (haven't even seen the new track layout before, in my head the circuit is still a pentagon shape Embarrassed)

and... I won first prize
I am the lucky man who won the grand prize of free entry to next years track days, I'm still in shock!

Really looking forward to the "2013 track day season"  - will have to get better brakes fitted though, once a dry line started to appear my speeds increased, and, my front pads (normal road use) only lasted 5 / 6 laps before over heating and needing to be rested.

A HUGE thank you to Nick and all the track day team for all their hard work and dedication to the track day community.

Jamie

WOW!

that is a lot of photo's !

really looking forward to seeing them, I noticed you taking them whilst I was driving, and had to remind myself that I should concentrate on the corners and not think about if you'd got a "good shot" of me / my car

Thanks for being there, standing out in the cold taking 2150 photos, and, for sorting through them all!   (which I know is very time consuming!)

Jamie
