    Posted: 03 Aug 2015 at 5:04pm
Good afternoon all,

Simon Alcorn has asked me to arrange the Alpina stand at this years National Festival as he won't be able to make it.

For those of you who don't know me I'm Chris Birkett and have a 2008, silver, B3 Bi-Turbo. I've attended a number of events this year with the car, including Bimmerfest in Belgium, Silverstone and the South Gloucestershire Show yesterday. Ones coming up include Carfest South and another trip to Belgium for a 50th anniversary celebration drive-out. I also used to be a member and Chairman (for a short while) of the Central (Central) region.

Jenn at head office has given me the names of who is attending so far. We only have 8 cars at the moment so it would be great to increase the number for the show. The cut off date to buy tickets for the show is 7th August so you'll have to get your skates on if you intend on attending. After the 7th August Jenn will provide me with a list of attendees. I'll then send out a plan of where we'll be parking on the day, together with any traffic news as I believe Jnc 12 of the M40 has been closed recently for road works.

Anyway, if you have any questions then please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thanks

Chris

I have paid for the ticket and received my wristband and pass. I will see what the weather is like on the day as about 300 mile round trip. I only go to chat to Alpina owners, but as you said yesterday Chris there are only 8 and that includes you and me, so I will see how many there are nearer the date and decide personally. We had 64 at Silverstone.

I think I will do the Belgium trip or KHK Fudla Germany the following week.

Norman

We will be looking for rare, unusual, and unique cars on the show ground and inviting the owner to bring them into the arena where presenter Steve Deeks will be interviewing the owner about the model and the tech type details, its meant to be fun, light hearted but also enlightening. Probably an E39 wouldn't be that car - I can think of one car howeverClap that would create a lot of interest….

I would have thought that would be John Safes Alpina B7 for example? Confusing it is a 5 series, no doubt? Built 1983-87 based on E28 528i only ever built at Buchloe and no rhd models ever made. A real rare and interesting car, nice to see it at Buchloe for 50th event, I am sure it was the only one there.

However, I was pleased to say mine was the only E65 B7 at Buchloe and as far as I know the only one in the Car Club? 11 built for UK of which we believe that 7 remain and that 4 are in the possession of one man in a warehouse.

I am sure there are many much more interesting vehicles for members to hear about?

Will be taking my Alpina to Gaydon this year, having been to Bimmerfest Venlo, the 50th Celebration & Silverstone.
Mine is one of only 4 made for the UK market Smile
Fingers crossed for decent weather

Brian, good hope to see you there then? Perhaps you will get an interview about your car, not sure who decides? However, I guess most Alpina are interesting if produced or imported in small numbers.

Norman/Brian

This could make an interesting conversational piece about the 50 yr celebrations, and the cars. No reason why a few of the cars should not come into the arena together..

Gents

Take this as a given that we will feature Alpina and bring the cars into the arena and Steve Deeks will discuss the celebrations this year and also the uniqueness of the cars. I will look at the programme to advise the time slot.

Good evening all,

We now have 14 Alpina's confirmed for Sunday, one of which will be on the Concourse stand.

We're aiming to be there for around 7:30 to set up the stand. I've not seen a parking plan as yet so hopefully that will be winging it's way over to me at some stage tomorrow.

Regards

I never heard another thing about the suggestion Richard Baxter made, did you Chris? I guess if we knew who had actually bought tickets we could have suggested the people with the most interesting Alpina cars (not me)?

Hello all,

Here is the list of Alpina owners who will be attending Gaydon on Sunday. This is not exhaustive as we don't have official details of the 14 who are coming:

  • Norman Burnham - B7
  • Brian Waters - B4
  • John Goodwin - B3
  • Lee Frost - ?
  • Martin/Terry Cook Butler - B3
  • Brian Elliott - D3 Touring
  • Charles - B3S Touring
  • Brett - B10
  • Eamonn O'Brien - ?
  • Abid Ikbal - B3S?
  • Me and Mel - B3 Bi-Turbo

If anyone else is coming who I've not listed can you make yourselves known please? Smile

Also, if I've got an incorrect car against your name then feel free to update it.

For the arena demonstration, why don't we pick a classic Alpina and Brian's B4 so a comparison can be made with an older model against a bang up to date one? Just a thought....

Regards
Chris

Chris, I am feeling pretty uncomfortable about Sunday. I will explain when I see you on Sat night. If I am still not easy I will go to Silverstone Sunday as well so not a wasted weekend.

I also suggest you speak to Mr Baxter about which cars will be chosen for the Steve Deeks interview as he suggested it and I have no idea who or which cars he chose, so I am sure that you will not want any one who may or may not have been promised something to be in anyway disappointed.

Cars for the arena will be agreed on the day - i.e. those who wish to and those who will be available at the allotted time, we'll sort this out in the morning but aiming for 10.30....

Chris, no need to apologise nothing to do with you, see you after Silverstone? Out of your list any idea of who is Club member and who is not? There are a few people there I don't know.

Many thanks to those of you who brought your BMW Alpina's to the National Festival yesterday, it's much appreciated.

It was a good show this year with some new additions to the list of things to do and see, which is always welcome. The weather was kind too as it makes a huge difference.

Thanks

Thanks to Chris and Mel for encouraging me to come and for your company at the hotel and evening meal. I got to speak to those Alpina owners I did not know and a few club members.

However, most people I spoke to had found me via my own FB car page and that was appreciated.

Disappointed that more were not there from Alpina and general perspective.
