I have just replaced the fragrance cartridges in my 2023 F90 M5. I followed the instructions about how to put the new cartridges in but after going into settings on the idrive screen I'm not getting any of the fragrance's into the cabin, the cartridges show up as full on the screen and it doesn't matter which setting I set as to the intensity. I purchased the cartridges from a BMW main dealer.

Did you remove the black cover (with the BMW logo on) before installing them?
Do the new cartridge names show up in your Climate Control settings? Have you changed the strength setting to 1, 2 or 3 (as I think they default to Off when initially installed)? Edited by Tony - 31 Oct 2025 at 11:14am |

Yes removed covers. Name of fragrances show up on screen. Switched through 1.2.3 and back again. Still no smell of the fragrance in the cabin. Cycled through different heater and blower settings.

I know there've been some reports of faulty chips on the refills, and some software/hardware failures...some fixed by an iDrive reset, some needing a replacement ambient air system.
Unfortunately that's only something the dealer could check out further.

They will probably charge you £100+ to plug a diagnostic machine into the car - let us know how much they extort for this! Thank goodness for the relative simplicity of my 27 year old Z3 . . .

I found a software update for the IDRIVE which I have downloaded and installed and I took the car for a good drive. I am now getting the fragrance smell coming into the car. So I'm not sure if it was the update or the run but all seems as it should be.
