Central locking update
Two things were not working on my central locking, and passenger door and the boot. The boot I tracked down to the wiring loom between the car and the boot. And the passenger door was the lock actuator. So this morning I stripped the tape off ai did as a quick fix and with a worried look on my face, cut all the cables in two. I stripped the cables as seen in this photo ![]() I then slowly started soldering it all back in with the new heat shrink in place. Bloody fiddly and being colour blind didnt help but managed to get it all back togethere, tidy and more importantly working. A few pics of my progress ![]() ![]() ![]() Next up was the passenger door actuator. I have ordered all new door trim clips as mine are broken, they have not arrived yet but couldn't be assed to wait so cracked on. Removed the door card and started fiddling with the actuator (already removed the old one) Now these are a complete pain in the ass, trying to look up through the door through a small gap and try to gauge and line up everything is near impossible. But I think I found the mistake we all make with them. Have a look at this photo and I will explain ![]() Now when you look on the underside of the actuator, and look through the door, it makes you think you have a clip in the door for each corner of the actuator, you don't. I was working on my passenger door (RHD car) and it actually slips in the centre holes (near the part that moves) it only fixes on two points. Once I noticed this I clipped it in within seconds. I found it easier to do it without it being plugged in. If I had known that, it would of took longer getting the door card off than fitting the actuator. A few pics of it coming out ans going in. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I also fitted this, it is the little things that make a difference. It was there but has gone walkies so got another set in. ![]() I have an alarm question. I have the two button alarm (Red and Grey button type) it was working fine, then all of a sudden, nothing. I get a light on the fob when I press the buttons but nothing from the car. Any ideas? Could my fob battery be on its last legs and causing this? I took the fob a part and it looks ok. The batterys are really old style (never seen them before) Has anyone had this? Cheers all Mark |

JTrist I agree with you, Dave knows everything. I think I have spent a small mortgage there over the years. Are you local then? What do you drive?

. Hi.I live in Sherborne and drive an M635Csi and I too have spent a fortune at Eden Motors over the past 8 years or so, But had I given the work to the Bmw Main Dealer then the cost would have been sky high and that is if they could understand how to repair these Classic Cars in fact the local Bmw Garage usually sends the older cars down to Eden Motors as their Technicians are not able to understand how to repair these cars. I know a lot of Bmw Car Club Members do take their cars to him.

Update, brake caliper paint.
So a while ago I had to replace the front calipers as they had seized. I bought some good second hand items and got them fitted with braided hoses and new fluid. Sadly, one was red and the other was black. Not my cup of tea ![]() So today was alloys off and some nice satin black hamarite high temp paint to freshen the calipers up. A few photos of the process, decided to clean the backs of the wheels out as well while they was off ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And my interior clips have arrived so will get that door card sorted. She is filthy now on the outside (dust) waiting for the sun to go away so I can give her a bath |

Update; Cleaned, polished, waxed, door card repaired, leather conditioned.
As mentioned above, my door card clips had broken, it was also coming off at thr top which you can see in these photos ![]() So, removed the door card ![]() Got the glue out ![]() And stuck it down, taped it in place too ![]() Let that go off while I was replacing the clips, got these off ebay ![]() I had to modify them a bit as they was never going on the door card ![]() Got them all on ![]() Removed the tape and replaced the door card. Much better, no more rattles. Next up was a clean, it has not veen used much so not road grim, just lots of dust. Got some helpers too, well they got the car wet for me ha ![]() So cleaned it down, polished and waxed with my failthful ![]() A couple during and after ![]() ![]() ![]() Next up was the engine bay Before ![]() After ![]() Next up was the leather. I use Glipton leather cleaner and conditioner, great stuff Before ![]() After ![]() I really slapped the conditioner on, put about three coats on. I recommend this to anyone with leather, makes it smell new and grips you in the seat. It also looks much better too Still need to find a fix for my glovebox ![]() ![]() ![]() Any ideas? And just some snaps of the car after the work/clean and some with my daily runaround which I will post shortly ![]() ![]() At my specialist getting booked in ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Its been a while as it seems you cannot talk about the GTs in certain areas of the internet ;)
Any how, the car has done pretty much nothing in the last 4 months or so. It passed the MOT in September with flying colours which I expected, since then she has covered around 40 miles. The battery keeps going flat which is annoying, I have taken it off and back to the Bosch service center but as it just passed the test they sent me back with it. I will be taking this back soon as its getting worse and still has 2 years warranty remaining. I have not had much time for the car and to be honest, with the poor driving on the roads these days, I am happy for it to sit out of harms way (Someone hit my daily driver and then claimed it was not their fault! Which it was A couple photos to prove it is still alive and kicking (and looking good) Thanks Mark

The glovebox problem is due to someone removing it in the past and not refitting it properly - a common E36 problem. Remove it again (air vents as well) and you'll see a plastic flange on top of the glovebox unit that locates into slots in the air vent unit by the lock. It's very easy to fit the glovebox and not get the flange located correctly leading to the horrid big gap. In your pic above 'any ideas' you can see a huge gap. With the glovebox and air vent assembly out you can fit them together and it becomes clear how it fits and what's gone wrong. The air vent unit has a self tapper in each air vent itself - cars with passenger airbags also have a 10mm bolt hidden up behind the glovebox light.

So its been a while since I had the car out to use, I have mainly been using my daily 330ci and diesels. What I have noticed with the Evo is just how good that engine is, it pulls from 1000 RPM with more than enough grunt and gets stronger and stronger throughout the rev range. It never seems to be in the wrong gear for overtakes and 6th on the motorway pulls really well from 70 MPH. These cars really do have a turn of pace when they need it and in my eyes, you do not have to try that hard for it either, just a gentle squeeze of the right foot and it takes off. I have had plenty of powerful turbo cars and some not so powerful, I have driven powerful diesels and mapped diesels but nothing compares to having instant response when pressing the accelerator pedal instead of lag. What I think is a great shame is how everything is now going to Turbos. Not just the //M range but everything in general. A well engineered big NA engine is a work of art in my eyes and perfect for people who like to have full control of the power delivery. Anyhow, back to the car, I have ordered a few bits from BMW. The plastic cover that goes over the wiper motors etc as mine is looking old now and the rear light unit seals as they are looking aged. Fingers crossed they arrive before the weekend so I can get them fitted. I am also in the process of getting her in for a inspection 2, just not sure who with yet. |

Local car cleaning people gave it a clean for me. Wash mitts, easy on the pressure washer.
It is not the wash mitts or pressure washer I would be concerned about...try the brick-acid TFR they use ![]() sure fire to remove all traces of wax in 30 seconds.........but assume your guys would know better ![]() ps. GT2 looks fab.

When washing the car I was noticing a bit of damp getting into the boot of the car, I checked all the boot seals and they all looked good, however the rear light seals looked in poor condition
I ordered the replacements from BMW and got on with fitting them Removed the rear lights and was confronted by lots of grim :( and the culprit So a nice clean behind the lights And gave the lights a quick clean off I had to remove the old gasket which is stuck on, careful work with a blade and some solvent to clean the glue off got them back nice again New gasket fitted And fitted back to the car While I was in this area I checked a common rust spot on the E36, around the boot seals Lucky for me, mine is rust free I am also in the process of getting the engine bay up to scratch, only two things need doing now, one is the engine cover which needs painting, I need advice on the correct paint for this please if anyone knows? And The plastic cover which goes over the windscreen wiper motors This is mine before As you can see, it was in poor state. It came up on with some plastic treatment but needed replacing, its all in the detail The amount of crap under this cover surprised me And the new one in place And the old Another couple jobs ticked off the list. Thanks
