My 2006 Z4 3.0Si soft top stopped working suddenly and i have tried all sensors, fuses & switches so I'm pretty sure the Hydraulic Pump has gone. The problem is other than from a BMW dealer they only appear to be available from the USA. I have the part numbers for the Pump & the insulated surround but am looking for a uk distributor can anyone help please !

I doubt if you need a new hydraulic pump - you are not looking hard enough!

Can you hear the pump motor running when you try to lower the roof?   If not,  Have you checked that the flap in the top of the boot is fully home? It operates a limit switch to stop the hood being lowered when the front of the boot is full.

If the pump can be heard to run, have a look at the hydraulic pump and see what you find.  The oil may have leaked out, or the relief valve may be open.

If it does not run, and the limit switches are OK, use a voltmeter or even a test lamp to check for voltage at the motor while the 'Lower' switch is depressed.   There are usually 'up' and 'down' relays to consider.

Also check that any other limit switches are OK (unplug the connectors and short them with a piece of wire)

Logical diagnosis should always be carried out before buying a new unit of any kind in the (usually forlorn) hope that it will set things right.

Thanks very much for your response and sorry its taken so long to reply. It turned out the hydraulic motor was broken ans I managed to get a reconditioned unit supplied and fitted for less than £500. So I have been enjoying the decent weather recently. The problem was the usual one where drains were blocked and the motor was soaked before it finally gave out. All fixed now though and thanks again.
