Anyone able to shed light on the Throttle Screws on each throttle body / intake on the E30 M3 S14 engine? Part # 13541402567, arrowed in pic below.
They seem redundant but are maybe used when tuning the engine? My car is nearing return to the road and I want to set the engine up as best as possible.

They are used to balance each of the throttle bodies. Very important for smooth running engine.

You will need something like the following:

Morgan Carbtune - carburetor synchronizer for balancing motorcyclecarbs

But before you do this you must first ensure there are no air leaks anywhere and have checked all valve shimm gaps are within tolerance. The thick plastic/rubber type gaskets that go between the head and the manifold probably need replacing at least as they give up with age.

They are not redundant!  These are the throttle by-pass screws, which adjust the volume of air passing through a small orifice by-passing the throttles.  They therefore provide a fine adjustment to the air intake of each throttle body, and are effective when the throttles are closed.

This permits the vacuum level on each throttle body to be equalised to give a smooth idle at the speed required.

The yellow plastic caps are simply covers concealing the adjusters, which can be locked in position with a dab of silicone between the cap and the surrounding aluminium.

In some cases where the throttles do not fully close - due to pooor adjustment of their linkage or an accumulation of dirt within the throttle body - one or more of these adjusters may be ineffective, the cylinder continuing to run with the adjuster fully closed.
A Z3 is not just for Christmas - it's for life!
