Hi
I have big problem with my car. I think its automatic gearbox because i cant drive forward and backward. My engine was noisy for few days and now i cant drive :( Help me please what can i do now. Im from Telford Shropshire. If anyone know bmw garrage on my area please let me now.

Www.autotechperformance.co.uk they are in Telford area or BMW main dealer.
As the car is showing no warning lights on dash you may need to get any fault codes read & take it from there but I would say that the gearbox as had its day. |

You could try ebay or a BMW breakers. It may not be the gearbox at fault,it could be the automatic gearbox control unit known as the ECU. Check gearbox fluid level also.

Hi guys,
I have a problem with my 528i automatic, it won't pick up low geares when pulling off, a yellow warning light comes on the dash it then pulls off ok but seems to be in high gear, any ideas !! Cheers Paul A |

The problem with the E39 is that they are not worth much. I have one before you shout. I saw a legal case in which a 540 was written off and although it was in immaculate condition it was valued at 995 pounds by the judge taking expert advice.
Therefore unless the problem is simple and cheap it might almost be worth scrapping and finding another. My 523i is still going at 144,000 miles. When it is beyond economic repair it will be crushed. |

Is the yellow triangle the same warning light as traction control/similar light? If so there could be a sensor fault cutting your power. Get it plugged in before any hasty decisions as maybe something simple. Ive just had an insurance agreed value on my 2001 540 for £3000

I have an auto E46 & the warning light on my dash shows as yellow & looks a bit like a toothed cog, if there is a gearbox fault according to my cars handbook.
I don't know if it's the same sort of warning light on an E39 though. |
