my 2000 525 E39 failed its MOT, headlamps aiming too low.
The BMW Dealer (Chandlers - great service) investigated and found that the adjusters were brittle and broken.
The cost for replacement of the 2 headlamps is close to GBP 1,800 .
Are the parts replaceable?
What are my options?
Many thanks for advice.

That sounds very expensive.

Suggest try 2nd hand source from some of the BMW breakers that advertise in the club mag.

You may also find some on E bay.

Drive a BMW and you will have a smile on your face every time (and- drive twice as far as you need to !!)

hi - they are available used and in the aftermarket - however I also suggest trying another MOT station to test first as had this before with headlights - I assume its passed the MOT for many years without needing adjustment hence why its seized up - you may surprised as may be the garage beam tester thats faulty - and be a lot cheaper for you - tell them the situation and ask them to test before and I would expect 99% to do this for free

Dear Sir, Speak to Paul (MD) @ MStyle great service. They fitted a pair of angle eye conversions and new  wheels for me at Gaydon. The Headlights were £250, the Xenon lighted additional £120 approx. I am seeing them on Saturday for more stuff.

many thanks all,

I found a very good specialist in Wandsworth, http://www.gsfmotorworks.com/, they got me some very good brand new headlamps for half the price BMW charged, got the car through MOT and gave me a nice bottle of wine as a gift.
Nice touch.
