hi guys, just looking for some much needed advice regarding suitable wheel offsets for the e46 compact track car
the car may be quite low so something sensible is key
I think i'm going to go for team dynamics pro race 1.2 8" x18" and run with 225x40 tyres.
anybody have a good idea what offset to go for, having a nice wide track without spacers without having rubbing issues.

any info will be great

cheers

ian

Showing my ignorance! when I was researching tyres for my Z3 I was told that going for low profiles tyres limits grip due to the lateral forces not getting enough sidewall to maintain the grip. so I stayed with my 16" standard rims and went for the Toyo R1R (I have to use the car on the road to and from the track possibly in the rain) but with standard profiles of 55.  When I was at Snetteron a few weeks ago I did not think to ask the Michelin guys as I had already bought the tyres

Does other peoples research confirm or refute what I found?

Ian ....I would suggest if you want 18s you consider the 7 series wheels type 32 etc as offsets are good however if you are running big calipers as I think you are they are likely to touch on the inside edge ...so welcome to borrow one first ....other than that you may be looking at new ones to the correct offset by racing dynamics that have a casting that allows larger caliper space.....can send pics if want and advise on offsets ....speak soon Neil

Also are you rolling rear arches....you will need an offset to ensure miss springs on coilovers.....ballpark on an 8 or 8.5 need to look at between 15 and 20 but again can let you try an 8.5 with similar offset then makes it easier to do the maths for you

cheers for the reply's guys.
@ Duncan, I need the 18's to clear the monsterous 345mm csl discs and 911 calipers ,

neil, I have ordered some 8x18 team dynamics pro race today with et35 offset.
I was informed I could go to et30 but et35 was 100% safe, I could always pack em out with spacers if theres enough room. the 18" m3 wheels I have here at the moment are just touching the coilover spring mount so I figure the et35's should be far enough out to clear

the wheels will be around 3/4 weeks or could be as long as 5 weeks.
ive gone for 8x18 et35 with machined spigot (not plastic spigot rings) and in anthracite.

I could do with some advice on brake pads though, if I can get it to feel anything like sams schirmer m3 with csl cup calipers etc and PFR pads.

my calipers are boxster s f&r
