Well a year of ownership has just passed. And indeed I have to say that its been an enjoyable year, mostly. Had always wanted a convertible and never really managed to get my hands on one - a two seater toy always being a little too selfish or indulgent so it always sat on the back burner and never got far. Anyways life is for living as they say, and last year I decided that why not.

My experience of convertibles had been limited to a few rentals. First one was a Chrysler Le Baron over in Florida back in the late 90's drove that from Orlando to Key West. Rented a Mustang in Hawaii and a Ford Ka in Spain. So my experience of a convertible day to day was pretty limited.

Pistonheads and Autotrader became regular stops on the internet as I looked around for a convertible - trying to find something special. First choice to be made was between a folding or cloth roof. Then when a hardtop was decided... Plenty of coffee and late nights going through adverts looking at specification and trying to decide.

I kept coming back to the Z4 - its a good looking car with both the roof up and down. So a number of Z4's were identified as possible targets - and it was going to be a few days to visit them around the country, I could have stretched to a new one but it was a 4 cylinder. And driving a six against the four the noise of the six really did sell it.

Eventually found one - a 23 sdrive at Taggarts in Motherwell. Grey with red leather and with idrive. So a trip over to see that car resulted in me putting down a deposit. The desire became reality ! All the paperwork out the way and the day of handover was arranged. Top marks to Taggarts as the salesman drove through to Broxburn and picked me up and took me back through to Motherwell on the day of purchase.

So there it was a Z4 on my drive and pleased as punch as they say. I had found the forums pretty good and I attended a couple of BMW car club meetings and then joined up. The meets a good laugh and people with a similar interest in cars.

Yes had a couple of issues with the car in the past year. Roof microswitch and alloys - But weighed up still think its a great car and think Ill keep it for a few more years as there are some roads out there that have not been driven yet...

Attached a picture taken on the 1st November this year at Longniddrie. Yes 1st November !

Thats the thing about the club it makes a difference and well I worried about joining but you know it adds to the experience and got to meet a good crew. The membersip wasnt that dear and made it back on the discount through Eastern when getting two new wheels. Out the past year that was about the only downer with the car. The roof switch got sorted by the warranty - the wheels those came out the hard earned... lol. Enjoyed Gaydon and the best meet had to be the Drumlanrig Castle one - That was a location if ever there was. The other meets were good and as usual an excuse to get the car out and meet up with everyone.

Did some runs up the west coast and also over to St Andrews when the sun was out. Good drives and yes the top down adds a huge smile to the drive. When its all going together life is sweet indeed.

I can relate to that, hood has been down the majority of 2014, and for most of 2013 - including Christmas Smile

air-con, heated seats, and [apparently] at over 30mpg the rain misses you ....... mostly LOL

Enjoy

Looks a nice car, hope you have many happy miles driving probably with a big grin on your face, more so in the summer months, with hopefully some nice warm weather.
