Hi having a starting problem on my 1985 M635 CSi
Having installed a new battery the indicator lights come on and stay on (ie not flashing). The car electrics (eg radio) work when the key is turned once but doesn't attempt to fire when turning to start. The car has an aftermarket, probably dealer fitted immobiliser with a fob to insert in the centre console to turn on/off. Any ideas how to reset this? Thanks Mark

I suspect that if it is the immobiliser that your best bet is to get a good car security place to disconnect it completely. Or maybe it is not the immobiliser and you just have a traditional engine not starting problem.

Hi Nick thanks for your response. I suspect it is the immobiliser given the solid indicators. If I can’t find a reset solution I’ll have to get it removed as you suggest
Have had plenty of ‘traditional’ non-starting problems!

I will have to admit immobilisers are always an issue to owner and not a thief, anything from the 80s is going give you repeated problems, so I would contact an auto electrician to get it removed. You could also get a hidden switch on the fuel pump to provide an “immobiliser” or even a GPS which can cut the fuel.
I had to have my Cobra alarm removed from mine due to starting issues.
