Hi All,

The new Top Gear series started on Sunday the 29th and I was a bit shocked when I saw the preview for the forthcoming programmes... a chrome bumper blue E30 coupé being dropped into the ground... Seriously? I hope it was a unrestorable wreck... but knowing what these 3 blokes are capable of, we can't expect nothing good!

If they do crush it, then they can expect a "Dear so called Top Gear..." letter like the ones from the Morris Marina Owners Club LOL

Great idea Arit - a free advert for the Club on National TV - that's got to be worth a Club voucher!!

Forget it - they will trivialise anyone who makes a protest, and just use it to get a cheap laugh at the expense of the BMWCC membership, with all the usual cheap jibes and sterotypes coming out.

You simply cannot expect sensible behaviour from these people, or their tame audience.

True, but 350 Million viewers can't all be "tame." Its the biggest earner for BBC.

I just take it as an entertainment show with cars, not a car show.

If you watch it and take them seriously, its not for you!

This may be controvertial, but I like the show, it's funny!

And, chrome bumpered E30's, whilst something you don't see all day, every day, they are not exactly an endangered species...I imagine it was rotted out in all the normal places....

There generally isn't uproar on here when somebody break a car for spares... isn't that jsu as bad?

Cheers,

Martin

P.S. I think you may find TG very interesting this season....

who cares? in all honesty it was probably an MOT failure, rusty ready fro export to china

they b*st*rdised an e24 a few years back an plenty of other cars. it entertainment and done to get a reaction.

all 3 presenters probably like e30's, well im sure they do as they did an episode where they had to buy cheap convertibles and guess what, they all bought e30's

Would it have been better if they'd dropped an Escort? I bet we'd be more upset if TG never mentioned BMW's. Seems to me BMW get a good press on TG, didn't they end the feature on the extinction of Saab by saying architects would now have to buy M5's?

TG is the most successful car programme in the world because it is good entertainment and they know what people like. Which includes top totty maneuvered into view lines! It might be lowest common denominator, but it works.

For me Top Gear is one programme rehashed a number of times to create a series.

That series is then rehashed to create the next series.

I much prefer Fifth Gear more car orientated Big smile

I agree it should be seen as an entertainment show with cars, and personally I find parts of it entertaining.

On a point of detail I think it is very unlikely that any of the three presenters were involved in choosing the specific E30.  And from the producers perspective it would make economic sense to use an unsalvageable car, so there is a reasonably high chance this is what happened.

And it's not all bad.  Hammond loved the V12 8 series he bought a couple of years ago.  They do the new M5 this week - now that will be interesting.
