I have been insured on a 520bhp 4.4 V8 Alpina for 12 years via A Plan and for 8 on an E39 523i. Very happy with the premium and service.
Due to a change in a family members circumstances I am likely to acquire a 435D with 70K on the clock. It would be kept at the same location as the other 2 vehicles, we have a 8ft high perimeter wall, CCTV and electric coded gated entry. The vehicles which are not garaged cannot be seen from the road. I even have an agreed value on the Alpina, so was very surprised when the proposed premium for the 435D came in significantly higher than the other Two cars. There was a polite explanation, but I am not convinced. Yet to try others as the process is painful. |

Hi norrie
Happy new year & hope your well. I stopped using a-plan when i changed the e90 325d to the 335d. Although there was a bit more to pay on the premium that they quoted at the time due to insurance period, but when i had the renewal quote through for the full year afterwards it was extortionate to what i thought it would be. I now use comparison web sites for cheapest & have changed each year & only pay about half to a-plans quote. Maybe I’ll try them again at some point but i am trying to cut costs now where ever possible on everything like most of us. Regards rich

Yes, I feel as I am lumped into a one fits all category with this car. You would think that an insurer who covers at car with a top speed of 190 mph which has 12 years no claims on it would realise that a less powerful car would be driven with the same consideration by the same driver. Perhaps they are more desirable to thieves or something. Perhaps I am missing the point?

Looks like my experience with A plan wasn't unique
Spent a good 40 minutes been passed from piller to post Gave them a try as they supposedly support the car club original quote on my 320GT £120 more than my renewal with the AA finally got to within £20 of my renewal but with some in my opinion un comfortable clawses and restrictions The person i finally dealt with couldn't understand my dissapointment of wasting 40 minutes of my time and why i wouldnt pay £20 more for an inferior product. Yes, Paul. I am not bashing A Plan as have had decent business with them for 12 years but there were frustrating elements, for example "parked on the drive way", I explained to the guy we live in a gated estate a former girls school, it has a high wall all around it, CCTV, coded gated entry, you cannot see my garage or anything parked in front of it from any public area or the road. This was dismissed as "on the drive". Likewise I wasted a lot of time. I was also surprised that they asked people their marital status, after some drilling of the guy I was told "the insurer checks the electoral register", it appear basically to see if the applicant is telling the truth. I wonder what might happen if someone replied " I identify as". All very confusing.

I've used Footman James for 7 years - super easy to deal with and very competitive. Underwritten by Ageas.
