Oil change frequency

   I use Valvoline Durablend Synthetic oil 10- 40 in my 1990 320i. Since I have retired I only cover about 3 to 4000 miles per year. I have always changed the oil and filter every year. Is it neccesary to change the oil annually with such a low mileage when using synthetic oil. Thanks John
