Hi, I bought my 2008 520dMSport Touring a week ago. It’s in excellent condition inside and out, no advisories on a long MOT, and 122,000 miles. It’s pretty quick and economical too. I’ve always wanted one. I had a major service done with Cedar Garages a German car expert service centre in Worthing.. nothing untoward was reported.
Although the car performs perfectly,at some point during any given day a vibration from the back end develops accompanied by some squeaking. At this point the engine tone lowers ( almost like a semi blown exhaust). Usually after a few miles this vanishes, and normal excellent performance resumes.  Obviously this is spoiling tye driving experience and I hope that nothing major is wrong. Does anyone have a clue what this is?
One other occurance is that the revs will ‘blip’ from 2000 rpm to 2200 rpm at a constant mph of say 40 mph.
Has anyone experienced these things and can shed some light on them for me?
  Cheers, Danny.

Swirl Flaps? Sticking maybe or just full of gunk.

I had my SF removed in my 320d 2004 and blanking plates fitted. Fuel economy improved from 35-40mpg to 50-56mpg.

Also the EGR valve needs a thorough clean out every 40,000miles and the inlet manifold also needs cleaning at maybe 80,000 intervals.

Rob.
