will a reset tool help? light only came on after having new disc's and pads all round. ecu changed, no fix, put original back on. Hope someone can help, mrs is about blow a gasket...... This post would perhaps have attracted more replies if it had been posted in the 3 Series Forum - I'll move it tomorrow. Mike F Edited by Mike Fishwick - 08 Apr 2013 at 4:11pm |

Have you called up the ABS fault memory with a code reader? ABS speed sensors are prone to becoming unserviceable and on older cars wiring damage due to water corrosion in this area is also a possible factor. (Personally though I think the light coming on after the pad/disc change is just coincidence) Hope this info helps and good luck...

Perhaps the sensors became coated with debris during the brake work - take them all out and clean they - and also inspect their wiring and plug/sockets connectors for any dirt etc. It only takes one sensor to bring up the warning lamp.
Also - is your battery in good condiiton? Give it an overnight charge, and then go for a drive to see if the system resets, as they often do. Don't buy new bits unless you are sure you need them - people spend a fortune and then find the cause was a bit of dirt on a sensor. |

Still unable to clear the ABS light, and the MOT is long overdue.
The many code readers (6) we have tried do not recognise the car. Is their any way I can test the sensors before getting new ones, running out of money. Spent more than I paid for it already, and getting grief from her indoors............... Thank you. |

Have you done a viual of the sensors and the connectors? I know this sound stupid, but i once came accross a Ford that had the light on, and it took me 2 days to eventually find that the person that had worked on the car last had smached the bit of the sensor that sticks out. Changed the sensor and all was well.
Does the light come on straight away when the engine is turned on? If so its an electrical connection. If it goes out when turned on and then comes on when over 5mph, then its a sensor that has degraded.
If you use a multimetre on the ohm setting, connect the probes to the pins in each connector and spin the wheel, you should get a variable reading. On the rears, use the same pins you did on the front as there are 3 pins on the rears and 2 on the fronts. The one with little variation or no reading is the one that has failed. My bet is its the right rear.
