I'm not trying to upset anyone, but PLEASE - could people try to spell the word 'Concours' properly?
Almost everywhere in this forum we see it spelt as 'Concourse,' when it is an abbreviation of the French term 'Concours d'Elegance' - without the superfluous 'e' on the end!
OK - some people make the lame excuse that 'You know what I mean,' but if you own a decent car, why not try to attain a corresponding level of spelling?
It's the same with apostrophes - the word for several BMW cars etc is simply 'BMWs' rather than the often-used 'BMW's.' Some people even use an apostrophe before every letter 's' to give howlers such as 'Diode's' or 'Clutche's' and so on.
Come on - just apply a bit of effort to produce the basic English we were all taught in Primary school . . .

Education is still OK, but some people seem to think that being fluent in their native language is 'uncool,'and work hard at speaking and writing pidgin english. Call me a snob if you like, but I judge people by their ability to handle their own language.

I find it sad and somewhat depressing that when there is a negative post on the forum it seems to generate far more interest than anything positive. I may need to seek another recourse to promote a Concours from my CONCOURSE.

Now then Mike we all make the odd mistake or two in our posts especially when posting as often as you do, as is shown in one of your recent posts. I do take your point however. There is no 'Silver Bullet' for problems such as this, but (if you have a
6-cylinder engine) one possible cause could be a problem with the relay
which feeds the ignition coils. If its contacts suddenly
'jumped' in response to the shock, it would cut off the ignition system
for a short while, giving the situation we see when switching on the
ignition. The engine would then restart, but some of the alarm
functions would not reset until the key was turned off, after which
things would be normal again. Perhaps a fault code my be lodged in the ECU memory, but don't be surprised if there is nothing. A
new relay would be cheap enough, but there is no guarantee that this is
the problem, alhtough it is likely to be caused by another non-exotic
fault, such as a loose/corroded connection etc. Let us know how you get on.

Please don't confuse typing errors with inability to use English correctly, which is something some people seem to think is 'cool.' For example, there are many people who do not know the difference between 'of' and 'have' but that does not mean such sloppy habits should be accepted.
There is nothing wrong with a forum containing negative comments, so long as they are not aimed at anyone in particular - we all have differing views, and after all, it is a discussion forum.
If all we ever read were glowing comments regarding BMW cars. the BMWCC, and BMW itself, this forum would be the poorer for it.

Only pulling your leg Mike, I fully agree with you with regard to spelling and the use of English. The big problem today is the mobile phone and the use of 'text speak' which seems to be finding its way into everyday use of the English language. I must admit I text often and use the text language simply because I hate to have to text so attempt to write my message as quickly as possible. Unfortunately I think its here to stay.

I feel sorry for those who cannot write decent English - just imagine how they fare when writing job applications, compared to people with a decent grasp of their native language. Let's hope that the advent of the Kindle, and a craze for reading books such as Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, may help the next generation.

Joking aside we should be encouraging people to post not fueling the image other forums who have the traffic have about the BMWCC....if someone wants to post and I can work out what they are trying to say then I for one have no issue.....people are often aware of their own education limitations but that should and must not mean they dont feel confident to post on this forum - but dont think thats what Mike is saying - I believe you are just bemoaning that sometimes people are just very busy and dont have time to spellcheck their post

What I meant was that I wish people would just try to improve their command of English, but that is probably too much to ask for. It has nothing to do with education limitations, as we are all taught to read and write at school.
It's like driving - most people become defensive if one criticises their driving, rather than thinking about the grounds of the criticism, and perhaps learning from it to improving their act.
Anyway - all I asked was if we could all spell the word 'Concours' properly!

Unbelievable. . One of my childhood mates can neither read nor write yet is now a millionaire property developer. Just because you can spell MIKE. Does not make you any better than anyone else who chooses to post comments on this forum.. You seem to have an opinion on every subject..

If you bother to re-read my posts, you will see that your comment regarding me 'Being better than anyone else' was a product of your over-active imagination.
This is a discussion forum, where people should be free to voice their opinions without being insulted.
Favouring good use of one's native language does not make one an elitist, and as for your obvious dislike of my 'Having an opinon on every subject,' I suppose you would prefer people who utter the popular reply to any question requiring a bit of thought - 'I dunno.'
Please keep your comments on an impersonal level in future.
