I am always puzzled when I see cars that are obviously well cared for , apart from one glaring omission , especially new and newish cars , the (expensive) alloy wheels , as I said , I cannot for the life of me understand people taking the time and trouble to wash a car but totally ignoring the wheels .I know people who have bought new cars and have a binge on ticking the options list ,selecting perhaps the most expensive choice of wheels ,and then never attempt to clean them ,I can obviously see the point of view from someone driving a lease or company car clocking up stratospherical mileages that time is money and it is not their own car ,but spending big bucks on a vehicle ,and taking the line that it is just a box to get from A-B ,why spend loads of money in the first place if its just a tool or convenience thing .I have a pal who thinks just that ,recently bought a 3 year old 320d from Mr Lovetts dealership down the road ,and in 18 months ownership has managed approx. 500-600 miles and the car is looking "tired" already , I am confused .com .Does anybody else think along these lines , or is it me ! ! ! On top of that why do so many drivers feel the need to kerb their alloys. It is very rarely you come across a car with perfect rimmage!
We need to educate the majority into the necessities of cleaning and looking after their motor vehicles

re. 1st post dave knapp. dave i know exactly where you are coming from, it never ceases to amaze me how people just use and abuse their expensive motors. it dosnt take much to keep on top of a cleaning regime. by the way, my bug bear are tyres, why dont people dress them after cleaning i will never know, oops my ocd is kicking in !! so cmon chaps, what annoys you?? lets get this detailing section up and running..

Hi Wood ? Just clicked on your reply to my post from August 2010 , I thought there would have been more comment on it , but there you go , I was a little surprised nobody picked up on the point that I made of spending good money and just totally neglecting the need of cleaning the wheels , the old saying of spoiling the ship for a ha'porth of tar certainly rings true don't you think ? When I am out with our Jack Russell , 'Charlie' , I pass through a business park and of course there are plenty of motors to look at , some very tasty , I presume belonging to M.D.s and C.E.O.s , one I see every day practically , is a black 320d , on a 59 plate , I have noticed it since it arrived and slowly degenerated under a layer of filth , inside and out , the front wheels are now same colour as the bodywork , and to emphasise the dirt all over it , usually in the vicinity just a few yards away is an elderly 240 VOLVO saloon , gleaming like a new pin , it is said you can tell what sort a bloke is by the car he drives , I will attempt to spot the drivers of both vehicles and get back to you , I would hazard a guess that I know the answer already , regards ,Dave .

Probably some of the problem relates to the fact that the cars you see are company cars and therefore not really the problem for the driver. No matter how dirty it gets it is only when it goes for a service they will ask for a valet as well. This is the only time the car is cleaned.
I know from the way some of our own company cars are cared for.
