At the risk of seeming to be  absolutely dense, Steve Haslam's article in the current magazine on Concours Rules states in the last paragraph  ('What Constitutes Orginality')  that a reduction of two points per non-orginal item 'Were applied at regional events and National Open Class in 2008.'

I was under the impression that Originality in the Open class had been done away with, but if we are indeed back to the past, I can certainly see how 'The rules did not prove to favour modified cars or disadvantage original cars . . . '

Perhaps that is that a new way of stating the the new rules disadvantaged modified cars, and did not disadvantage original cars.

Have I missed something yet again, and if so, where?

Check out above and read the rules for Open class and you will see they have been "done away with".
I must admit I had not noticed that the final sentence you refer under 'What Constitutes Orginality' has been incorrectly placed and should have been attatched to the Open Class paragrapgh afer ...judges discretion. It would then have read correctly.
thanks for reading so thoroughly and spotting my mistake
Trust rest was clear.
Tell it how it is the Northern way.
