Hello there,

Alastair Masson here. The E21's still in dry dock ... combination of poor weather making me reluctant to take her out, and the kids stealing time.

Will probably be at the show again this year with the old stick (the car ).

Tried to get in touch with the production company that's making the follow-on from 'Life on Mars' - Ashes to Ashes. Thought they might be interested in a 100% standard and immaculate '82 like mine given that it's set in '81/'82. No response from the rude buggers yet tho, even after 3 weeks!!

Bye for now!

Alastair.

That doesn't seem to both the arty types, the fact that the car is of the period date.

I was asked to supply my car for a drama called Looking after JoJo. This was set in Edinburgh in 1982 but E30s as we know did not arrive in the UK until 1983. Hey ho!

The company that dealt with this was Action vehicles. They had a portfolio of all sorts of cars to call upon but didn't have a BMW at the time. So they contacted the Club office and I was contacted being the local boy.

Maybe a call to them or a similar company may result in work. It was profitable. Back in 97 when my car was used it was £175 per day plus free food for the owner. All I had to do was get the car there. A false set of plates were then used for the filming.

When I first started with the club they were very prevelant and as the E30 became more available the old E21 took a back seat and have been forgotten by the club members, in the main.
I am as guilty of that as the next man. My first BMW was a P plate 316 - KWG 757P.

After a few years I could then afford a newer one and purchased this one locally in Inverness. It was 4 years old at the time: 5spd 1766cc with HLWW on the single h/lamps. Very unusual, I've never seen another like it.

My head was then trned by a henna red 323i - E30. I still have that one to this day but still think good of my E21s.

It had been metallic silver (whatever the official colour was) but someone had done a blow over with Henna red.
I was 17 when I bought it for £1200 and insurance third party only ws £200pa. I was earning £17 a week.

I did have 100 on the clock on one occasion and it averaged about 19mpg.

Neil,
you will see our old E21 looming up in your mirrors when you come to Croft - we sold it on to DrJim, a track day regular.

My blue one was at Harewood last year (en route to Croft), but it's up for sale now. the slug (formerly Nicks car) is stripped caged etc, so not a show car really! Then I have an engineless slightly rusty Baur resto project. I'm busy trying to weld up the floor of my 635CSI before I can get to the Baur.

So I might have a car to bring to shows, or might not - who knows!

Been trying to stir up some interest in e21's lately. Hopefully, the next issue of Total BMW is going to feature some. I hear a rumour there may even be a rather nice Baur? They have even bought their own. A black 323i although it has some horrible modern alloys. Hopefully they'll replace those?
