Considered this briefly myself as a possible long term project but sadly don't have space (or funding)

I went to see it today, car is based near Stratford-Upon-Avon. With the owners permission I have posted a photo here and want to see if anyone is interested in this. Please PM me for further deatils...cheers!

Hi Neil,
I did start it, engine is STRONG, sounds good too. I only drove it only back and forwards few yards to test. Auto gearbox good too.

There are a lot of issues (probably too many to list really). Minor rust on both rear arches. Could do with full body respray. No MOT or Tax (been standing about 1 year, SORN'ed). Alloys are good. interior needs work - dashboard cracked, some trim broken.

Owner is asking for £750 (open to offers). PM if anyone interested cheers.

Ok. I thought maybe if nobody buys it I may take it myself and save up for a restoration on it.

You're right it is a lovely car

It pains me to say it but this red car just isn't worth restoring. You'll spend about 6k to get it into reasonable condition if you budget for the things you can see it needs, and then not far short of that again for all the things you can't see and don't budget for. When you've spent 10k on it you're left with a car worth about 8k!

My own car's pretty nice and I have spent nearly 4k in the last year without even trying...E24s eat money, you can't run them & repair them properly on a shoestring.

You can buy a really nice E24 that's had some money spent on it for 5-6k. Shame to see them rot away & get broken for parts buts that's the economic reality in my opinion.

I gave £3.5k for this Highline last year with 89k miles & full history...I replaced the TRX wheels, but it had already had new wings. It just isn't worth buying a 1980s E24 to restore is it?

I will now run for cover!

Lovely car Simon

I guess the restoration could be VERY long and expensive indeed but I am sad to see it in that state and wanted to generate interest here at the club.

Hi Ritz

Thanks for your kind comment.

I admire your motives as I love the e24- I looked at loads over the years before I took the plunge last year & it's always a shame to see cars such as these go to the breakers- I just wanted to make sure no one on here made the 'wrong' decision which they could lose their shirt on!

Having said that, I nearly bought a '78 633 to restore last year until my wife slapped me!

BTW, like yourself I'm an e30 owner as well, use it everyday. My e30 is the same year as my e24 and the e30 is much better made & more reliable!

Simon

I have a thing about the old 6. Everyone admires that sharknose look...even the owner said this. He currently has an E32 7 series as a daily car now.

I think the owner last used it a year ago, but the weather has taken its toll on the car paintwork. Some heat damage inside too. I did have a good poke about and he fired it up for me.

The owner is also keen for someone (with lots of money and time!) to restore this. Other option is breaking sadly

I wonder what else the postman delivered that morning?

What a bloody state that's in. Assuming the front wings are okay (you'd need to take them off and get them blasted), to put the bodywork right on that would cost the thick end of £3000 for a reasonable job. The top sides would need bare metalling and the rear panel is absolutely knackered where it meets the rear wings.

A pity because my Dad had one of those in 1983 as a company car at BMW in that colour. It was about the same price as our (very nice) house. Now look at it.

Yeah I think its steep although it has dropped to £850 recently but no sale yet I think.

Ive seen it upclose and personal, not a great state. I hesitated to offer even 600
