Thanks Neil, mines showing an Inspection 1 is due but it's time not mileage, I was going to get my local indy to do an oil and filter change but wanted to check what else needed looking at.
Also, I'm using Mobil 1 15-50 SuperSyn, any views on it's suitability? Darren. |

Knowing the car - cant see a lot needs doing - oil, filter, check brakes, links, most of the inspection 1 is checking operation so no point paying for what you know...and I would guess you have replaced most parts that need checking for age wear...call me if want to discuss
Sorry but I use Castrol not Mobil - personal preference but nothing wrong with Mobil

Darren,
The green lights will tell you when Inspection 1 or 2 is due and is based on usage, not time. If you are referring to the clock symbol appearing then you should ignore this and just turn it off as I think this related to the annual bodywork inspection for the warranty, which won't apply now.
It's simple enough to do this with a piece of wire and an in line fuse.
As for other servicing, just change the oil and filter every year then have inspections as the lights say are due.
Which oil is very subjective and really depends on the useage, i.e gently driven road car or track car with very high oil temps seen regularly.
Personally, my car has 0W-40 BMW oil in it that the previous owner used. Opie said that was OK.
I have previously used Mobil 1 years ago or Magnatec for the last 6 years on my previous car. With the use you give your car I wouldn't worry as it won't be run to any extreme. You would more be concerned with fully synthetic or mineral based oil. As you have had a rebuild Opie may recommend a fully synth, let me know.
Regards
Kevin

Kevin,
Thanks for the reply, Opie did recommend a fully synthetic oil, the Silkolene Ester based Pro S 10W-50. They said that ester based oils are better because they leave a residue of oil on the internals which is obviously better on start up. I was running Mobil 1 as this is what Birds use (again a fully synthetic 5W-50) but wanted to see what was available/recommended and as we get a good discount from Opie I thought I would give them a try. I also bought a set of the Denso iridium plugs to try as well. Regards, Darren. |
