The BMW Car Club are organising a 'Better Driving Day' at Cadwell Park on August 14th (Thursday). The idea is for people who have always wanted to do a track day to come along and sample it in a very safe environment. The day will be led by Chris Rossiter who is an excellent track driving instructor (he is the MD of AC Schnitzer). There will be 8 'Guides' (I am one of them) and we will be leading 4-5 cars each around the track for the day. The first session will be driving around following the lines that the guide takes at about 30 - 50mph. The next session is possibly a little faster depending on how the first session goes. The customers will then be allowed to do free lapping during the afternoon - they can choose which speed they want to drive at but even the fastest group won't be doing more than 70 -80mph.
No-one is allowed to register without first speaking to Chris or Nick Wright - he does not want anyone at all to feel out of their depth or intimidated by any other driver. Consequently he wants to weed out the hooligans and boy racers! They just would not help the nervous driver at all!
I wish that I had had the opportunity to do this before my first track day - it would have meant that I didn't suffer the humiliation of being 'black-flagged' on my first ever sighting lap!! We all still laugh about it now but it wasn't funny at the time - it was 6 years ago :-) !
Anyway - the cost is £200 for the day ( track days at Brands Hatch are more than double that). Please let me know if anyone is interested and I will give you Chris's phone number.
Kind regards
Nicola
