Hi all, my name's Simon and I'm based at Brentacre Specialist Car Insurance in Swansea. We specialise in modified and classic cars but are also in talks with the BMW car club.
We have an office full of Petrol Heads so if you feel there just simply aren't already enough Insurance companies to call, add our number to the list! 01792 650 933

Simon. You are correct, there are a number already. Can I ask if you are a broker? Who are you speaking to in the BMWCCGB. What makes you different or better or cheaper than any other supplier? Are you only offering Insurance on modified or classic cars or on all BMW cars and do you cover Alpina?

Hi Norrie,
We are indeed brokers, what makes us different is that we quote on the BHP not modifications. So if you did agree to a policy through us, you do anything from changing the head unit or coil overs right up to cutting it in half, adding a roll cage. So providing the BHP doesn't change, with just a quick call or email, it can be added to your policy with no additional premiums or admin charges. We do do all cars modified or not and do insure Alpinas. It's hard to say generally whether or not we're cheaper as everyone who has insured through us in the last 27 years obviously thought so while those who didn't thought we weren't ;) but we do aim to be competitive and if you have had a better quote from elsewhere, we will certainly look into beating it. We've been talking to David Frith, but I'm not sure if I can divulge much more at this stage.

Thanks for that, I am not asking you break any protocols or confidences. I do have an Alpina, but don't need to modify it.

Hi Norrie,
No problem, it was good speaking to you. When you find a good company, it can certainly work out well to stick with them. I'm still insured with another company (before working here) and just bought a new vehicle which they've been unable to add to my policy. Something on their system was preventing it and they had to escalate to their underwriters. A day later, still nobody has gotten back to me with a revised premium or confirmation. Pain in the backside as I can't play with my new toy until they sort their end out, I was expecting to have it under my policy within a few minutes. But anyway that's my rant over. ;)

Phil that will be interesting. Do you already use A plan or if not do you think you will get a quote from them? I have to say that I like the fact that I have met Clare Ironside who I deal with and her boss Henry and feel that my insurance is being dealt with personally as opposed to some call centre. The great thing is Clare really understands Alpina and many main high street insurance companies names don't have a clue.

My 'A' Plan renewal was more than 10% less than the cost from Brentacre!

Phil, call and speak to Clare Ironside and only speak to her. Tell her you are a BMW Alpina owner. 01635 874646. Simon insures with them as do many Alpina owners, talk to her about what you want from your policy and they can tailor it to suit your needs. I cannot make guarantees, but worth a try!

My A-Plan quote was double my Keith Michaels one - but I suppose 25k miles in a 'slightly modified' car, with business & European use, parked on the drive/road in Liverpool/Brentford is never going to be an easy premium to work out

Excuse my ignorance who is Keith Michael? I am sure that not everyone will get a better quote from A plan, otherwise they would have all they market. I am sorry it did not work for you.

Be interested if you can get quotes from both Aplan 7 Brentacre and also do a thorough comparison with the policies too.
Most (yes most) people do not even ask about the policy just the £££...mad but true.

Phil, apologies I did not say that the quote I received from Brentacre was an exact like for like policy. This includes European cover, also for use in connection with my business. I do have a Thatcham security system fitted and have upgraded to a 2014 VHF tracker, the car is kept behind 12ft high security gates with CCTV in the location where I live. it is in the grounds of an old school and in a managed estate.
Please do get a quote from Brentace, if you so wish, I did! |

I'm in the process of getting a quote from Brentacre but they haven't come back to me yet.
A Plan couldn't get close to my Churchill quote but have referred me to another office as my contact was in Solihull not via Norman's contact. I'll keep you posted.

Phil. Suggest you ask for darren Coote and by all means use my name as introduction :-)
Best of luck and let us know if you go out to others that fair comparison.
ps. Do you include for agreed value ?? Is your car valued via club??
Ask each insurer if they just take your word (dangerous) or do they have standard proforma questionaire which you complete and submit with photos ala our club valuation scheme??
Thanks

One thing for Brentacre, when I called it took about 12-14 rings before anyone picked up the phone. I guess they must have an open plan office because when I was speaking I could hear lots of voices in the background. The person I spoke to Simon, was helpful, but could not offer better that I currently receive on a like for like policy.
Simon also told me that they had not finalised the agreement with the BMWCC? However, I understand that the Club believes it is in place? |

At the time we were really waiting for the club to announce here rather than doing it myself.
Phil, I've checked and I believe your contact first came in over a weekend but Gary has now spoken to you in full. Let me know if this isn't the case.
