For those members also interested in railways - Check BBC for the first public run to Londomn today of brand new steam engine "Tornado"
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7876333.stm

(instead of selfishly going to watch it pass through Peterborough today , i took my better half to watch Holiday On Ice in Peterborough instead - she wasnt happy about having to spend two hours digging her car out first though)

Also check the link for the sale of another Bugatti !

The 250 mile run down to London received a great welcome from all the  train enthusiasts all the way down from bridges-roads and stations, amazing how many people have missed the sight-sound and Smell of train steam--like me!!!!!

Hi John, Bern

Don't have to wait for the sight and smells of the Steam Age.

Us model engineers  just grab a bucket of welsh coal and fire up one of our Model Steam Engines.

The one pictured is 5" gauge 0-6-0 Tank engine, has pulled 26 people!

Royal naming of Tornado at York on Thursday 19th Feb

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/north_yorkshire/7898633.stm

Must admit i then spent quite a lot of time watching the events from the 14th Feb on the Southern. It was good again to see my spotting haunts from the early 60's.

Some years ago we had the AGM at the rail museum in York--Fantastic collection of everything to do with trains.

We sat down to dinner on one of the engine turntables---time for a revisit I think?.Great presentation of British best that the world copied.

For an industrial 0-6-0 tank engine, a knotted hankerchief would be more appropriate !

I know the club had a meet at NRM last year; anyone organising another one for this year ? Sounds like a few of us "out of region" may be interested .

Excuse me young sir!

How about I dig out my other Model, a 31/2” gauge 4-4-2 locomotive.

A live steam replica of the London, North Eastern Railway class C1 Atlantic, I built.

BTW: one of these engines G.N.R. No 251 is preserved as part of National Collection at York!

Now can I keep my engineers cap and throw away the handkerchief?

That was us, and a grand day out was had by all.
If you want another one it can be easily arranged.

I am sure we can attract some like minded members to attend Nick. Would you do the honours to organise ?
No knotted hankerchiefs allowed (or hi vis jackets). Engineers hats, and combined ABC's, accepted.

Why not give the Railway Museum at Shildon, County Durham a visit?  Its very good and houses part of the York collection and is the true home of the railways and where it all started in 1825.  Unfortunately Darlington to Stockton gets all the credit .

Good call - but not on my patch, thats Mick's parish. I'll mention it to him as I would be up for a trip there.

.. York, on the other hand is most definately classed as Yorkshire and I would be pleased to take us all there again.
I'll mention it at tonghts meeting and pencil it in for May 3rd.
