Hi every one
just a word of advise to everyone
have recently had a set of keys stolen from my house to my BMW
After consideration my insurance company decided they would honour the
claim but I have to pay the first £250.
The amazing thing is, I had a thatcham 1 immobiliser on the car that was fitted after the car was built, and therefore I am not covered for the new fob and recoding of the device at a cost of £158.00. So I have a system that has improved original car with a certificate of compliance that protects the insurance company more than me and yet it is not covered. This is the first claim I have had with classic car insurance which has left well out of pocket. WHO ARE THE FOOLS HERE, ME, THE INSURANCE COMPANY, OR THE BURGLARS THAT GOT AWAY WITH OUR HOME CONTENTS AND MY WIFES CAR.?
I live in hope of a better world
Nigel

Hi Nigel, Hope things are sorted now! Normally being fault or non fault you would have to pay your excess out and if i take it, it came back as non fault this would be refunded back to you? Had a few of these problems knowing people that have had their keys stolen from the home, surprisingly their contents cover paid out as it was an item from home! Shocking better world!?

Firstly I am sorry to hear anyone has had a vehicle or personal posessions stolen. I had a friend who had an X5 stolen and I would advise extreme caution when reporting to the insurer the details of a claim. Their house was broken into in the middle of the night and he had left his keys on a coffee table in the lounge. It was determined he ad "failed to take reasonable precautions to prevent the theft of the keys".
I believe the car was actually recovered, so it did not come to a no pay out. I personally keep both keys secure in the house at night in two separate secreted locations. I threatened by the intruders I guess I would give the keys, also suggest getting a tracker fitted. |
