Paul you may wish to check with the Club but my understanding was that after a poll of members there are on "series" display areas and no regional ones.

OK I checked, this was the decision, but I know the Club are keen to get as many people there as possible, so best speak to the Office or the Chairman. It would be good to see everyone there.

Is I understand it, there are to be no Regional stands this year but there will be a regional display comprising of one car from each region.
At the moment here in Eastern we are struggling to choose which car to put forward. Edited by Nick Wright - 14 Apr 2022 at 1:36pm |

Nick , how on earth does someone choose that car, perhaps the regional representative should display their car? Ok, only a thought dont shoot anyone. Seems a tough decision.

The Region Chairs have a lot of freedom on that, and there a variety of approaches being applied.

So, are you saying that if a region travel together and want to park together, they can’t ?

Cambell. I am personally not saying anything as its not down to me. I am pointing out that there was a communication sent to all members asking them how they wished to display. We all were then informed the general consensus was people wished to display in series as opposed to Regions. From what I can currently see there is no opportunity to display as a region, suggested in those communications.
What can you or anyone else who wishes to display as group do? Firstly contact the Club Office and make representation, secondly if not happy speak to the Chairman or other Directors. I was told by the Chairman that in the booking process ( you will need guidance on how to do this from the office) there is the ability to create "other" groups. This is designed to encourage non BMW member groups to attend the show and other groups? Hope that helps and hope to see all from Scotland there and parking and displaying however they wish, I was just bringing this to peoples attention and have no other input. Well, I didn’t ask anyone to raise anything with anyone, simply asked a question.
I was thinking of coming down because I like Donnington but frankly, not being with my friends puts me right off. I think its a stupid idea but thats just my personal opinion. And for that reason, I’m out.

Campbell, only you can decide what you wish to do.
The reason I raised it was not specific to your post or other Scots members. There was someone from the region that I am from who seemed to believe that there were regional displays. Indeed perhaps there will be? But for any group that is not a series, no matter who they might be perhaps contact club office. If it does not suit that is their prerogative. I have no idea how many people bothered to respond to the club when it polled people and of those who did who asked for regions. It would be nice to have that detail. However, I do not suppose we will ever know. |

Hi everyone!
It would be great to see the Scottish region attend the show, of course it's a long way down, but it will certainly be different from the previous shows at Gaydon as we will have a much more 'moving show', with the BMW Car Club Racing in attendance and far more trade stands and entertainment. Norrie is correct that there was an email sent out earlier this year giving you - the member - a chance to choose how you would like to park at the show. Over 400 people answered, with nearly 100% of members opening the email with the survey. Unfortunately we cannot force or expect all members to answer a survey if they do not wish to do so, but that means they are leaving the decision down to those who do decide to answer. As we are expecting a much larger show than Gaydon, we decided that a one-option display parking would help the marshals - the volunteers - to direct members to the correct parking on the day. There will still be a regional display at the show, in the form of a flag bearer, and although you may not be parking together, you will all be at the same show together! :) It may even give you an opportunity to meet members you may otherwise never get the chance to meet, such as members in the very south of England! If you have any suggestions for next year's show, we would be grateful to hear them. Please email office@bmwcarclubgbc.co.uk - Lisa Davies

Lisa, thanks for the detail. It's good to understand. I know many people are very busy and sometimes messages, emails, notifications get missed or good intentions to deal with them pass us by.
Like you say it's not Gaydon, it is something new and different and they best way to find out is to attend if possible. |

Sorry to say i think it is a silly idea not to park in your Region as you want to enjoy the show with your friends & traveling companions TOGETHER !!!
So as the famous saying go's "I wish you luck ..... but im out "

I think it really depends on the Dynamics of a region, it is 100% clear that the Scottish region works very well with folk and people are happy in that format. However, other regions are not so close knit and I am guessing that is why the majority of those responding to the poll voted the way they did.
I still personally do not see why any group should be excluded and I dont see why the Club cannot accommodate folk who want to park together. It seems strange to me not to find a solution for any group. Edited by Norrie - 20 Apr 2022 at 8:37pm |

I agree, I mentioned "groups" to the Chairman when I saw him last Sunday. Best contact him directly and get the definitive answer. We are getting constant messages encouraging us to get people to attend, so the "no regions" decison sounds like an own goal?
However, I am going to park with Alpina owners only and I dont mind where they come from. We had 86 at Nottingham last Sunday which was great. But folk should be able to decide with whom and in which format they prefer, in my view. Edited by Norrie - 02 May 2022 at 8:57am |

Hi Norman,
As mentioned in my response earlier in this post, members did get the chance to decide how they liked to park, and the decision was for Series. The Club and its Directors went with the members decision as a democratic vote, to change it at this stage would be quite undemocratic and confusing for those who have already booked on. The response so far is still overwhelmingly in favour of Series.

Hello Office. I do not disagree and have no personal issue whatsoever. If the Scottish group or indeed any other group have an issue, even after it was clearly spelt out and they were informed in advance. They also had an opportunity to vote, I dont know who did or did not. The point I am making to them is if they do not like the result then they should speak to the Board or the Chairman and then those decision makers can explain (if they feel they need to) the result and why it remains as it is currently. I totally understood the process, it is not for me to say if it was right or wrong. The bottom line is I am sorry any Club member should feel excluded, but they do have an opportunity to attend under the current protocol.
I am slightly confused though as the Chairman told me it was possible via the booking system to create "other groups"? This was alleged to encourage groups who were not BMWCCGB members to attend? If this is in fact correct then any Group including our Scots colleague could create such a group, could they not? Unless this information is incorrect? I would like to know so I dont misinform any other groups that I am related to. |

There are lots of BMW owners/enthusiasts that belong to large BMW Social Media groups like Facebook and instagram so this section is aimed at them. I'm pretty sure there is a minimum number of 10 for 'other group' parking too...but would need to confirm this. Thanks Michelle |

I dont think its gone crazy. Its fairly simple. There was a poll. some replied, some did not. The consensus was folk wanted to park in series and not regions in the majority. The event was then constructed that way, after it was decided some people from various locations expressed a desire to "park as a group". This as Michelle explains above was for external groups specifically.
Personally, I am very happy to be attending in a series, I would not be interested in parking or displaying as a region and would probably not go. |

I have decided that rather than park next to people I don't know for the day, my Mrs and I are going to lie next to a pool in a very hot country for a week along side people we don't know and drink beer and cocktails !

Paul, Yes I have bought my ticket and I am standing in for Simon Alcorn who is the Alpina series volunteer for the club. I will through Alpina social media and theAlpinaregister.com try to get as many people who and I know and some who I do not to attend and fill the space of 50 places made available. Simon is unable to attend otherwise it would be his task. I think currently we have around 15 people booked and paid, but I dont have any access to that information directly, the club office have been helpful telling me how may spaces are left. I think some owners have been put off by the fact one has to download a copy of a picture of their car, but this is MSV rules and nothing to do with the club. Are you attending as the car with the flag representing your region as suggested that is the regional procedure?

I am attending the Alpina section as the person who is the club volunteer for that series is unable to attend. If this was not the case I would need seriously to consider the costs.
